What sort of performance increases would you get by putting extractors and an exhurst on a 4cyc, 6cyc, and 8cyc,

from experience with corollas and pulsars, putting extractors and exhurst on are really that cost effective. they will give you slightly freeer air flow through your exhurst which technically means you will get slight power gain, but noticing this power increase is hard. in high reves it may rev faster but thats bout it.. [ and you'll get a nice sound with your exhurst...

dont go and get a fkn 3.5" system so it looks huge, cuz that definitly when you satrt loosing power, look for like 2 - 2.5" cat back piping. Also look at high flow cats, or get the mechanic to turn your cat into a high flow, just by cutting it.

so from what i have ex[perienced, you might feel a slight increase in power, or you think you might just cuz the car will be louder, but by the books it will increase power, by how much, a really really good system 10-15Hp.

Go for a full exhauyst system, not just a cat back one.. cat back systems are only as good as the smallest diamater pipe in your exhaust system

So many misconceptions!

Having a cat back exhaust is better than having standard exhaust the whole way through. It is indeed less effective than block to muffler exhaust, but think of it this way:

Take a piece of 5mm tube and a piece of 10mm tube.

The 10mm tube is easier to blow through, right? We'll call that the full 2.5" system.

The 5mm tube is hard to blow through, right? We'll call that the stock system.

Now what about a short piece of 5mm tube followed by the 10mm tube? Its easier than blowing through a full length of 5mm tube (ala the "stock" setup) but its not as easy as a 10mm tube (ala the "full" setup).

As for too big == not enough power, thats wrong. You WILL lose low down torque beause most small cars have a big exhaust to give artificially high torque figures. Toyota hilux's I believe are shocking for doing this, they just add small exhaust manifold to make the petrol feel more torquey. But anywhere other than "down low", you will get gains. The biggest gains will be at high revs and its something you will REALLY notice on the freeway etc. Who launches from the line at idle revs anyway? Just give it a few bickies and drop the clutch, no probs.
