Well last night on my way to the redlands cruise, i blew a fuse which caused my whole dash to unilluminate, driving lights turn off, parkers turn off, and tail lights turn off. However when the fuse blew, it melted (usual problem with the VL's).

So i had to surgically remove the bits of fuse, but the melted plastic made its way into the small metal claws that the metal part of the fuse sits in. I tried to clear it out last night to get a new fuse in, but it didnt work.

So im going to have a good loook at it and try and get it out.

So the question is, is this possible to get out? Or will i need to get a new fuse box? Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it out?

Cheers

Sean

No ideas to get it out mine is the same man half of mine have been re routed now..... I believe that its quite easy to rewire in a vn/vp fuse box which apparently doesnt melt fuses like the vl box does????

MAte, there is a few option, i have had the same problem with you, and yes it is a common problem with VLs. rolleyes.gif

you can either keep trying to get the excess melted plastic out of the metal 'claws' ... it can be done, i have done this before

You can aswell, go to an auto electrician and get them to make a fusible link, it cost me about 30 dollars. so it is that expensive.. that will solve your problem aswel.. and it is cheaper that buying a whole new fuse box... and it is does ecactly the same job

hope this helps you biggrin.gif

Well we occasionally have that problem at work...I would find a nice small pointy file or screwdriver... are they blade type fuses??? you don't need to buy a whole new fuse box anyway..you can bypass one fuse with an inline fuse holder...although i would maybe try and fine out why the fuse blew... have u done any mods under your dash changed stereo or anything...

Also if they are blade type fuses you might like to try circut breakers... They are about $10 each but you'll never have to replace a fuse again.... when it blow's you'll only have to reset it with a small screwdriver or pen... just a tip...

You can get circut breakers from Rs and Farnell or if u want to contact me I can order you some...

Good luck with the fuse holder... also if u have a short make sure you have everything off before refitting a new fuse as you'll blow the terminals out of your fuse holder... very common mistake I've done it before and it's not cool...

Um well i have put driving lights on my car. They are hooked up to the parkers. Maybe that shorted it out, cause the fuse to blow.

Did you fit a relay to the circut or just connect them via a switch...

I would remove them before fittin a new fuse otherwise u might have the same problem...

you have current limits on all circut's in your car u can't just keep adding to them... U should have taken a pos from your battery or fuse box not one that's already fused...

cut it and put a fuseable link in very common on vl's and the easiest way to fix it.

yeah take it and see mick rye (VHE11) from ryes auto electrics on redland bay rd....

he will just re wire it so that he can put a inline fuse in!!! won't cost u that much!!

they also tend to melt cause of higher than factory globes in the high beams!!!
