Got a swift Gti turbo!! Was up the coast the other day and on the way back cracked the radiator, therfore no coolant runnign through the engine. engine obviously overheated as i didn't realise the heat gauge rise, so to cut a huge story short, got a tow truck to get my back to brisbane. i replaced the radiator and got the head inspeacted through preessure tests and vissability tests. no damage there, but now my turbo is only running like 6pounds. i usually run it at 12psi with no worries at all, but after putting the radiator in it only seems to go to 6psi in 1st and 2nd, and reaches like 9ish psi in 3rd and 4th. any ideas??? have i bumped an electronice boost controller when putting the radiator in, or is there a pressure seal crack or wat??? i'm goign to take it to a shop, any good ones that you would recomend??? how bout team driftkings??

Suppose you could eat a banana if you wanted but it doesnt really have the same effect........ :-)

You could have bumped your controller puttin the radiator in. Just double check your settings. The people who inspected it might have changed the settings. I wouldn't recommend driftking. Go to APC or bob remano or something. Driftking aren't that reliable.

Go to Lance at Albion Suzisport.... he is very good, did all the work on my Turbo Mightyboy.... he does quite a bit of turbo suzuki stuff.

Don't go to Stafford Suzisport.

John at Springwood Suzisport is good too. That covers most of em! wink.gif

Done all the basics like checking your turbo hoses? On the GTi turbo kits the turbos are mounted at the front aren't they? Mayhaps you bumped something down there.

You could have your turbo actuator piping cracked...that's the piping that limits the amount of boost you run. Apart from that, yea, head to Suzisport...they know their stuff.

Enema

I thought about that too... but, the thing is... if the actuator or hoses are cracked/loose... then not much air would be getting to the wastegate or alternatively it wouldn't open at all due to a cracked actuator...

which in turn would mean there is no boost limiting at all and boost would jump...

hrmm... who knows... probably your boost controller.

Yea, I just had 2nd thoughts....the boost would stay at a similar level if it was leaking out of the actuator piping. However, if the actuator was leaking so much, there would be an enormous supply of boost ontap. That's how I used to run my Charade turbo...23psi of screaming boost, ripping the mains apart. Those were the days.

How much did this engine overheat? No head warpage? Best thing to check would be cylinder compression for sure. Also, MAYBE reset the computer buy leaving the battery off overnight. That's if the computer is resetable.

Honestly, I can't think of anything that could be bumped in the front that would muck around with an engine. Wait on.... O2 SENSOR! Where's that located? Check that sucker for sure.

thanks heaps for that stuff, i'll check it out straight away. thoust bout going to suzisport at albion too, but just wanted to see if i could have a go first.

there was no head damage said the mechanic, and it was overheating for the most of 10min i think, but that was constant speed thou. the mechanic also did compression test and said all good.

i'll look at the piping again and the O2 sensor, cuz he reckoned that i may have knocked something, otherwise ill head to suzisport tommorow..

thanks

Hate to be negative but it has to be said, you may have actually overheated the turbo (if it was a watercooled unit in mediocre condition) & stuffed the seals/bearings so that it CANT run more boost than you are seeing on the gauge now......but thats by no means definate, just a possibility.....

so last night, thurs nite, went on the boostcruising cruise startoing ath hypermarket and so on, got about as far as windsor maccas and then had a run with a GSR. i was in 1st at the lights, beat him to 2nd then droped it into second and NOTHING!!! LOST ALL BOOST AND POWER. it was still only running like 6psi all night instead of the originall 12pounds, and then sudsdenly get nothing.

i still have vaccuum the it hits )psi and goes no further, and the car is shit slow now, as you can imagine!!!! if i hold it a 0psi for a few seconds the BOV still goes off so i pressume there is slightly some pressure going throu with would mean that the turbo is still running, maybe. i looked at the fan in it today and it is still spinning and i can see any obvious damage, but not really sure what i'm looking for.

could a pipe have bl;own of somewhere, not that i could see one, because also if the turbo has blown up would there be trubo smoke everywhere??? well there is no smoke out the exhurst or blowning straight of the turbo.

could someting be caught in the cat, but the exhurst still sounds the same, very free flowing???

so if it is the turbo or the wastegate, how much can i get a new or reconditioned T25?? can you get ones of say 180sx's from guys that have down turbo upgrades.

anyone with any ideas at all, that have smoe knowledge!!!!!1

wouldn't take it to drift wood as there are alot of bad stories from them, well the aspley one atleast, and APC are a bunch of tools, and thats from my own personal experience, Charlies motors seems to be a good place, so far i've had no problems with their work.

Im assuming all the bolts/nuts are all tight, as my mates turbo had that problem, the nuts actually fell off the turbo manifold.

U beat a GSR in 1st hey? was it stock? or was he just not trying? those things have excellent gearing for off the line launches. I haven't seen any 2WD cars beat a GSR off the line if the GSR launches properley.

That doesnt fix his turbo and it might start a fight, so can we leave it at that. Please.

yeah it is the white gti, large front bar...and yeah, i beat the GSr in first, his flash light went off, weather it was set on granny mode or not beats me, but yeah, it is not fixing my turbo....

But last night i had a play around with it and one of the wires had come loose from the elec boost controller so i hooked it back and then looked at the wastegate and the flap on the side seemed to be open so i played with it moving it back and forward and i think it must have been stuck, so then it was moving freely, took the car for a drive and YES I WAS RUNING 12PSI...... but it only seemed to last the night, today i went out this morn and it had droped back to 6 again, and this time the wires where all connected, so i thought maybe, is it possible for the wastegate flap to only open half way and jam or someting like that??? and are you able to lubricate them?? if so with wat, (WD40 or grease?!?!?!?)....

heading to suzisport of monday, but if there are any other ideas plz let me know and i'll have a look...its just really wierd that it ran 12psi on fri nigth and sat morn back to 6ish PSI..

If the WD40 dont work, Id have to say its stuffed.

Jokes BTW.

for all thats interested, when one of the wires fell out of the electronic boost controller it hit the earth and shorted the coil in the controller and inturn one of the transisters things in the computer shit itself, so i had to get a new controller and gettin a new peice soldered into the link computer. thanks heaps to lance at albion SUZISPORT!!! so now i'm running 12PSI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!still with very little traction!

mAJORD, if you where in the old subaru blu ute with the boost gauge, yeah that was me, but only running like fkn 5psi, usually would've easily stayed with ya if not past aya from what i saw, i think, might be wrong.. but yeah now i'm runnig the 12pounds, i'll have to give ya another run...but yeah you did move!!!![/u]

Did you do the work on your car?

I remember seeing a white turbo GTi for sale in the Trading Post that used to belong to Kev i think...

SIR GTi
Post #23

yeah it kev's old car, but its been changed a little, been to suzisport, got some other shit down, and riced it up a little, not too much, but i like some of that stuff although i know alot of popel that don't.

HYPERformance B4

if its that quick i wouldn't mind seeing it and maybe watching you give it some stick?

cams116
Post #25

How much power at the front wheels? If you dont mind my asking.

Enema
Post #26

I think the Trading Post ad said 165hp at the wheels...

but yes... make sure Lance goes over it well... I *think* the work was done at Stafford Suzisport which = poo.

SIR GTi
Post #27

yeah it got just over 160hp at wheels running on 12psi, but i wanna put a two stage, say 7psi and 14psi, then looking at around 170Hp..

presently is been recorded 14.03 1/4mile....but traction becomes a big problem in high boost/revs...got to get LSD!!!!!!!

and yeah Suzmot, lance actually built most of the engin himself, FUCK STAFFORD - and it was sent south to "julius" at one of the suzisports in NSW to be tuned...
