Have read many posts about different Nissan engines, What's the difference between the Silver top, Red top, Black top engine? Apart from the obvious colour difference.

All I wish to know is what is the difference? I am new to these engines and wish to increase my knowledge base so when I look at buying a vehicle I am aware of what I am looking at. |

QUOTE(Glider @ Jul 20 2006, 09:52 AM) Look here dude: http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/Nissan-Engines-t775.html The 'silver top' SR20 engine you show looks like it's had the rocker cover repainted, silver-tops (SR20DE) generally just look like plain metal. They do not come turbocharged, and can be found in RWD S13's and FWD SSS and Ti Pulsars (also NX Coupe's). The top two 'red top' motors you link to, aside from being the same pic, are 1.8l CA18 motors, available in turbo (CA18DET) and non-turbo (CA18DE) in RWD in pre-1990 s13's and also FWD nissan Exa's RB20's are a similar shape to the CA18's. There are a few differences in appearance but the easiest (aside from reading the engine number on the side of the block, which will contain ca18 or rb20 ![]() Any Silvia with an RB series motor in it will have had an engine conversion, as they didn't come out with them as standard. Gr8. Thanks for the info |
