The brakes in my Dad's car let off a high pitch squeal everytime they are used. This is really annoying does anyone know a common fix for this problem? I'm pretty sure its only the disc brakes up front. It's a Mitsubishi Verada. Any help would be great fellas. biggrin.gif

Sorry, what do you mean bro by "machine the discs"?

make sure they dont need new pads, cause some pads have a metal tab on them so when they get low they squeel. if it doesnt need new pads, blow them out with high pressure air.

machine disc = take a layer off the disc so they are not shiny. you need a machine like a lathe to do it. most mechanics can do it.

I got a Mitsubishi Lancer VRX and when I took them to get new brakes I had the EXACT same problem.
Solution? Reverse about 50 metres and brake hard. Repeat 3/4 times?

It's because they wear in a fowards motion, reversing and putting the brakes goes against the natural groove therefore causing it to be rough, which in turn removes the squeek. BeeP BeeP!

Step 1 > pull the pads out and check the amount of braking material left on them

Step 2 > if they have sufficient braking material left (normally the same thickness as the backing pad is around 5000 km of normal driving) then remove both pads of one side, place one in each hand, go and sit on ur driveway and place the pads with the braking compound face down on the cement and rub vigourously in a circle motion. This will de glaze the pads and eliminate the high pitched squeel. It's like running finger nails down a black board.

Step 3 > Drive at 100km/hr in reverse and brake 2.3 times hard pffffft biggrin.gif

Take the pads out and just rub them on concrete, or rub them with sandpaper. This will de glaze as stated before, and also remove any crap caught in the pads.

I tried almost everything on the volvo to stop the squealing noise, had repco red brake pads in, never again they suck. I put bendix brake pads in and it stopped the squealing noise, worth the money.
