If the antifreeze mixture is effective to –22°F (–30°C), the boiling point of the coolant in the pressurized cooling system is reached at approximately 266°F (130°C). The coolant solution must be used year round to provide the necessary corrosion protection and increase in the boil-over protection. Refer to Service Booklet for re- placement interval.
If the coolant level is low, water and MB 325.0 anticorrosion/antifreeze should be used to bring it up to the proper level (have cooling system checked for signs of leakage). Please make sure the mixture is in accordance with label instruc- tions. The water in the cooling system must meet minimum requirements, which are usually satisfied by normal drinking water. If you are not sure about the water quality, con- sult an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.
Coolant system design and coolant used stipulate the replacement interval. The re- placement interval published in the Ser- vice Booklet is only applicable if MB 325.0 anticorrosion/antifreeze solution or other Mercedes-Benz approved products of equal specification (see Factory Approved Service Products pamphlet) are used to re- new the coolant concentration or bring it back up to the proper level. To provide important corrosion protection, the solution must be at least 45% anticorrosion/antifreeze [equivalent to freeze protection to approx. –22°F (–30°C)]. If you use a solution that is more than 55% anticorrosion/antifreeze [freeze protection to approx. –49°F (–45°C)], the engine temperature will increase due to the lower heat transfer capability of the so- lution. Therefore, do not use more than this amount of anticorrosion/antifreeze.
Technical data Fuels, coolants, lubricants, etc.
Anticorrosion/antifreeze Your vehicle contains a number of alumi- num parts. The use of aluminum compo- nents in motor vehicle engines necessitates that anticorrosion/ anti- freeze coolant used in such engines be specifically formulated to protect the alu- minum parts. (Failure to use such anticorrosion/ antifreeze coolant will result in a signifi- cantly shortened service life.) Therefore, the following product is strongly recommended for use in your vehicle: Mercedes-Benz 325.0 Anticorrosion/ An- tifreeze Agent. Before the start of the winter season (or once a year in hot southern regions), you should have the anticorrosion/antifreeze concentration checked. The coolant is also regularly checked each time you bring your vehicle to an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center for service.

Windshield and headlamp washer system
Both the windshield and headlamp washer systems are supplied from the windshield washer fluid reservoir. The windshield and headlamp washer fluid reservoir has a capacity of approx. 7.1 US qt. (6.7 l).
왘 Refill the reservoir with MB Windshield Washer Concentrate and water (or con- centrate and commercially available premixed windshield washer solvent/ antifreeze, depending on ambient tem- peratures).
Warning
Washer solvent/antifreeze is highly flamma- ble. Do not spill washer solvent/antifreeze on hot engine parts, because it may ignite and burn. You could be seriously burned.
Technical data Fuels, coolants, lubricants, etc.
Windshield and headlamp washer fluid mixing ratio For temperatures above freezing point, use MB Windshield Washer Concentrate “S” and water: 앫 1 part “S” to 100 parts water [40 ml “S” to 1 gallon (4 liters) water]. For temperatures below freezing point, use MB Windshield Washer Concentrate “S” and commercially available premixed windshield washer solvent/antifreeze: 앫 1 part “S” to 100 parts solvent [40 ml “S” to 1 gallon (4 liters) solvent].
379
Tread wear The tread wear grade is a comparative rat- ing based on the wear rate of the tire when tested under controlled conditions on a specified government test course. For ex- ample, a tire graded 150 would wear one and one-half (1½) times as well on the gov- ernment course as a tire graded 100. The relative performance of tires depends upon the actual conditions of their use, however, and may depart significantly from the norm due to variations in driving habits, service practices and differences in road characteristics and climate.
Traction The traction grades, from highest to lowest are AA, A, B, and C. Those grades repre- sent the tire’s ability to stop on wet pave- ment as measured under controlled conditions on specified government test surfaces of asphalt and concrete. A tire marked C may have poor traction perfor- mance.
Warning
The traction grade assigned to this tire is based on straightedge braking traction tests, and does not include acceleration, cornering, hydroplaning, or peak traction characteristics.
Technical data Consumer information 왔 Consumer information The following text is published as required of all manufacturers of passenger cars un- der Title 49, Code of U.S. Federal Regula- tions, Part 575 pursuant to the “National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966.”
Uniform tire quality grading
Quality grades can be found, where appli- cable, on the tire sidewall between tread shoulder and maximum section width. For example:
Tread wear Traction
200
AA
Temperature
All passenger car tires must conform to federal safety requirements in addition to these grades.
380
Warning
The temperature grade for this tire is estab- lished for a tire that is properly inflated and not overloaded. Excessive speed, underin- flation, or excessive loading, either sepa- rately or in combination, can cause excessive heat build-up and possible tire failure.
Temperature The temperature grades are A (the high- est), B, and C, representing the tire’s resis- tance to the generation of heat and its ability to dissipate heat when tested under controlled conditions on a specified indoor laboratory test wheel. Sustained high tem- perature can cause the material of the tire to degenerate and reduce tire life, and ex- cessive temperature can lead to sudden tire failure. Grade C corresponds to a level of performance which all passenger car tires must meet under the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 109. Grades B and A represent higher levels of perfor- mance on the laboratory test wheel than the minimum required by law.

Distronic*
Engine oil viscosity
A driving convenience cruise control system which helps the driver maintain a pre-selected speed: 앫 If there is no vehicle directly ahead,
the system operates in the same way as conventional ->cruise con- trol.
앫 If a slower moving vehicle is ahead,
Distronic will reduce your vehicle speed to the extent permitted by re- duced throttle and up to 20% brak- ing power to maintain the preset minimum following distance.
Engine number
The number set by the manufacturer and placed on the cylinder block to uniquely identify each engine pro- duced.
Measurement for the inner friction (vis- cosity) of the oil at different tempera- tures. The higher the temperature an oil can tolerate without becoming thin, or the lower the temperature it can tol- erate without becoming viscous, the better the viscosity.
