VEHICLE STORAGE If you are leaving your vehicle dormant for more than 21 days, you may want to take steps to protect your battery. You may do the following: • Remove the 20 Amp mini-fuse in the Totally Inte- grated Power Module (TIPM) labeled Ignition-Off Draw (IOD).
• Or, disconnect the negative cable from the battery. • Anytime you store your vehicle, or keep it out of service for two weeks or more, run the air conditioning system at idle for about five minutes in the fresh air and high blower setting. This will ensure adequate

BULB REPLACEMENT
High Intensity Discharge Headlamps (HID) — If Equipped The headlamps are a type of high voltage discharge tube. High voltage can remain in the circuit even with the headlamp switch off and the key removed. Because of this, you should not attempt to service a headlamp bulb yourself. If a headlamp bulb fails, take your vehicle to an authorized dealer for service.
WARNING!
A transient high voltage occurs at the bulb sockets of High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps when the headlamp switch is turned ON. It may cause serious electrical shock or electrocution if not serviced prop- erly. See your authorized dealer for service.
NOTE: On vehicles equipped with High Intensity Dis- charge (HID) headlamps, when the headlamps are turned on, there is a blue hue to the lamps. This dimin- ishes and becomes more white after approximately 10 seconds, as the system charges. Quad Headlamps
1. Raise the hood to access the high or low beam bulbs at the rear of the headlamp housing. 2. Release the two tabs on the side of the connector and remove the connector from the bulb. 3. Twist the headlamp bulb and pull the bulb from the headlamp housing. 4. Install the new headlamp bulb and twist until locked into the headlamp housing.
MAINTAINING YOUR VEHICLE 481
CAUTION!
Do not touch the new bulb with your fingers. Oil contamination will severely shorten bulb life. If the bulb comes in contact with an oily surface, clean the bulb with rubbing alcohol.
5. Reconnect the wiring connector to the bulb. Front Park/Turn Signal Lamp
1. Raise the hood to access the rear of the headlamp housing. 2. Twist the turn signal socket and remove from the headlamp housing, then pull the bulb out. 3. Push the new bulb into the socket and reinstall the socket by twisting until locked into the headlamp housing.
482 MAINTAINING YOUR VEHICLE Front Side Marker Lamp
1. Raise the hood to access the rear of the headlamp housing. NOTE: Access is somewhat limited. You may have to remove the inner fender well or remove the headlamp housing for bulb replacement. 2. Twist the socket and remove from the headlamp housing, then pull the bulb out. 3. Push the new bulb into the socket and reinstall the socket by twisting until locked into the headlamp housing. Fog Lamp
NOTE: Access to the fog lamp bulb is from the rear of the fascia. On the left rear side of the fascia, remove the push pin and lower the hinged access door on the air dam.
1. From behind the bumper fascia, or the access panel on the air dam, twist the bulb counterclockwise, and remove bulb.
CAUTION!
Do not touch the new bulb with your fingers. Oil contamination will severely shorten bulb life. If the bulb comes in contact with an oily surface, clean the bulb with rubbing alcohol.
2. Disconnect wire harness from the bulb. 3. Reconnect the wiring harness to the new bulb and reinstall the bulb by twisting clockwise. Rear Tail, Stop, Turn Signal, Side Marker and Backup Lamp
1. Raise the liftgate.
2. Remove the tail lamp assembly by removing the two screws from the inboard side. Use a fiber stick or similar tool to gently pry the light on the outboard side to disengage the two ball studs.
MAINTAINING YOUR VEHICLE 483
NOTE: • If a screwdriver is used, make sure a soft material is placed between the vehicle body and tool so not to scratch the paint. • The PRY location is best closest to the studs while
dislodging them separately.

490 MAINTENANCE SCHEDULES EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEM MAINTENANCE The Scheduled Maintenance services listed in bold type must be done at the times or mileages specified to ensure the continued proper functioning of the emissions control system. These and all other maintenance services in- cluded in this manual, should be done to provide best vehicle performance and reliability. More frequent main- tenance may be needed for vehicles in severe operating conditions, such as dusty areas and very short trip driving. Inspection and service should also be done anytime a malfunction is suspected. NOTE: Maintenance, replacement or repair of the emis- sions control devices and systems on your vehicle may be performed by any automotive repair establishment or individual using any automotive part that has been certified pursuant to U.S. EPA or in the State of Califor- nia, California Air Resources Board regulations.
MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE The oil change indicator system will remind you that it is time to take your vehicle in for scheduled maintenance. On Non-EVIC equipped vehicles, CHAngE OIL will flash in the instrument cluster odometer and a single chime will sound, indicating that an oil change is neces- sary. On Electronic Vehicle (EVIC) equipped vehicles, Oil Change Required will be dis- played in the EVIC and a single chime will sound, indicating that an oil change is necessary. Based on engine operation conditions, the oil change indicator message will illuminate. This means that ser- vice is required for your vehicle. Have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible, within the next 500 miles (805 km).
Information Center
NOTE: • The oil change indicator message will not monitor the time since the last oil change. Change your vehicle’s oil if it has been six months since your last oil change, even if the oil change indicator message is NOT illuminated. • Change your engine oil more often if you drive your • Under no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed 6,000 miles (10 000 km) or six months, which- ever comes first.
vehicle off-road for an extended period of time.
Your authorized dealer will reset the oil change indicator message after completing the scheduled oil change. If a scheduled oil change is performed by someone other than your authorized dealer, the message can be reset by referring to the steps described under “Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC)/Oil Change Required” in

At Each Stop For Fuel
• Check the engine oil level about five minutes after a
fully warmed engine is shut OFF. Checking the oil
level while the vehicle is on level ground will improve
the accuracy of the oil level reading. Add oil only
when the level is at or below the ADD, SAFE or MIN
mark.
• Check the windshield washer solvent and add if
required.
Once A Month • Check tire pressure and look for unusual wear or
damage.
Required Maintenance Intervals Refer to the Maintenance Schedules on the following pages for the required maintenance intervals.

SUGGESTIONS FOR OBTAINING SERVICE FOR YOUR VEHICLE
Prepare For The Appointment If you’re having warranty work done, be sure to have the right papers with you. Take your warranty folder. All work to be performed may not be covered by the warranty. Discuss additional charges with the service manager. Keep a maintenance log of your vehicle’s service history. This can often provide a clue to the current problem. Prepare A List Make a written list of your vehicle’s problems or the specific work you want done. If you’ve had an accident or work done that is not on your maintenance log, let the service advisor know. Be Reasonable With Requests If you list a number of items and you must have your vehicle by the end of the day, discuss the situation with
IF YOU NEED CONSUMER ASSISTANCE 509
the service advisor and list the items in order of priority.
At many authorized dealers, you may obtain a rental
vehicle at a minimal daily charge. If you need a rental, it
is advisable to make these arrangements when you call
for an appointment.
IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE The manufacturer and its authorized dealers are vitally interested in your satisfaction. We want you to be happy with our products and services. The manufacturer’s authorized dealers have the facilities, factory-trained technicians, special tools, and the latest information to ensure the vehicle is fixed correctly and in a timely manner.
510 IF YOU NEED CONSUMER ASSISTANCE This is why you should always talk to an authorized dealer’s service manager first. They want to know if you need assistance. • If an authorized dealership is unable to resolve the concern, you may contact the manufacturer’s customer center.
Any communication to the manufacturer’s customer cen- ter should include the following information: • Owner’s name and address • Owner’s telephone number (home and office) • Authorized dealership name • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
• Vehicle delivery date and mileage

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION UNIFORM TIRE QUALITY GRADES The following tire grading categories were established by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The specific grade rating assigned by the tire’s manufacturer in each category is shown on the sidewall of the tires on your vehicle. All passenger car tires must conform to Federal safety requirements in addition to these grades. Treadwear The Treadwear grade is a comparative rating, based on the wear rate of the tire when tested under controlled conditions on a specified government test course. For example, a tire graded 150 would wear one and one-half times as well on the government course as a tire graded 100. The relative performance of tires depends upon the actual conditions of their use, however, and may depart
IF YOU NEED CONSUMER ASSISTANCE 515
significantly from the norm due to variations in driving
habits, service practices, and differences in road charac-
teristics and climate.
Traction Grades
The Traction grades, from highest to lowest, are AA, A, B,
and C. These grades represent the tire’s ability to stop on
wet pavement, as measured under controlled conditions
on specified government test surfaces of asphalt and
concrete. A tire marked C may have poor traction perfor-
mance.
WARNING!
The traction grade assigned to this tire is based on straight-ahead braking traction tests, and does not include acceleration, cornering, hydroplaning, or peak traction characteristics.
