1954 (03/55) vw oval beetle (Bumblebee) People in the know realize that although this car is dated 03 / 55 it's often considered as a 54 as they are made from same kits and the model changed mid 55, see google for the small differences like ribbed doors, no exhaust cut outs etc. It's always been registered in 2 states as a 54.
Very rarely will you come across a car like this and yes I know it's not original spec but that's what makes this one stand out even more. It had the same owner from 1987 until recently and it was fully rebuilt/modified in 2000 and to this day is still in great condition (so no hidden nasty's under fresh paint, this car is legit solid). It has the original matching 55 body and 55 pan (but not matching engine as now 1600DP) and the car is in such good condition with no rust or accident damage as it was a Canberra car and recently when It was up on the hoist at my mechanic said he could not even find any evidence of previous rust repairs.
The engine is a mildly worked 1600 dual port industrial engine. It has a mild cam and different ratio rockers with the sports exhaust and twin kadron carburettors. It has an electronic 009 distributor. Heavy duty clutch. It's running a type 3 full synchro gearbox with the type 3 larger rear brakes that have new drums recently fitted. It also just had the link pin/ Kingpin front end done with new front shocks and a later model steering box fitted. It also has front and rear sway bars and is 12 volt converted. It has an electronic temperature gauge and I have fitted some hidden USB ports for charging phone's etc. It has a Recaro interior it has been mod plated. Yes it's had later model indicators fitted to it but it still has the original semaphores and you can always change the indicators if you like.
If you've driven a 54 bug you'll realize that it isn't very fun, but if you drive this 54 bug you will have a blast! it keeps up with modern traffic, it moves very quickly, it sounds great, the gearbox is smooth, it handles well and it's just a pleasure to drive and sounds just awesome on the road. It is a driver's car and yes it's on full Queensland rego and no its not a show pony. The paint work presents really well for its age and there is no signs of any rust or bog in the car and the car is always garaged. The paint does have small stone chips etc and little bits of wear here and there but overall it presents very nicely for 19 year old paint.
It's recently had $2,000 spent on the front end and brakes and it passed a roadworthy less than a year ago and is only done about 1000 km of driving since. It does have the usual veedub slight oil weap (very minor) but I can't foresee any other issues preventing a roadworthy certificate. If the buyer is in Queensland I'm happy to arrange a Roadworthy inspection but if you're interstate then it's of no use to you anyway.
And no the number plates do not come with the car. Will be sold with normal rego plates.
I can assist with shipping the car interstate and even know of a few guys that could do it door to door for a very reasonable price. For example to the Sydney area for about $1,000 and to the Melbourne area for under $1,500 The car is located on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. If interstate I can do more videos and photos or you can send someone around to inspect it if you like.
Video on YouTube of the car running.
Genuine sale as I have two other projects that need finishing.
