ohk, i just sold my minitruck.

and getting a work ute, 2008 Ford Ranger, they come in turbo diesel, done my homework, cheap on petrol etc..

anywho.. im a p plater, i love the noise of blowoff vavles..

can u get a blow off valve installed on a stock diesel turbo engine?

or can u only get the blow off valves wat run off the revs?

im a noob to turbo's, so im keen to learn

thanks anyways.

my first impression = troll?

i guess not...
ima p plater.... blow off valve on deisel?

From what i know of it isn't possible to put a blow off valve on a diesel because it doesn't make vacuum, and most diesels don't have a "throttle body" as such..... Some newer diesels have electronic over boost valves etc.
blow off valves work on vacuum and pressure. when the throttle body closes on a petrol engine the blow off valve opens venting all the pressurised air between the turbo and the throttle body.

haha something different, i know what u mean though... use probly think im a fuckwitt for trying.. haha

just something different..

thanks anyways fellas!

You can make them 'dose' wink.gif

no it wont work.
diesel "throttle bodies" are completly different to that of a car. I havn't seen a turbo diesel with a throttle body all together.
with that being said. no.

no you cannot have a dose pipe either.

put a decent exhaust on it without many or any mufflers. Diesel turbo's have the best turbo whistle lol. and you can get decent induction noise if you play around with snorkels etc.

agh cheap on diesel.. wateva..

uno wat i mean.. lol

Suprisingly, it is possible to fit a BOV to a turbo diesel.

On a petrol car with throttle closed, a combination of manifold vacuum 'sucking' on the spring side with excess boost pressure spiking on the IC piping side causes the spring to compress and release boost pressure.

On a turbo diesel, you dont have vacuum BUT you can set a BOV to be 'loose' which does have a habit of bleeding open at high boost but once pressure spikes, a small 'fart' or sneeze like BOV noise can be attained to release the boost spike. Lots of effort for minimal gain though

yeh except its open on idle and cloes as the revs increase.

what you should do depending on what sort of injector pump it is, is wind out the maximum fuel screw/ play around with governor, pull ya mufflers out and whack a t-piece on the wastegate positive pressure line. that'll make all the right noises mamoru.gif

edit: this will probably make you loose your job. facesjump.gif

Man if you could do this, every single p plater tradie would be ripping it up on ever corner

hahaha fuck dnt wanna muck around with it too much

its pretty much a brand new car..

hahaha loose my job? probly lol

BOV's only work on Acceleration, not deceleration.. so its more like Blow ON valve.. run.gif

some diesels can be made quiet quick actually. love the torque in them. some BMW turbo diesels with a ECU flash/exhaust/intake are good for mid 5's 0-100 and still be p plate legal oopsie.gif

there's a 4X4 that volkswagen makes that has 800NM of GLOURIOUS torque! it's a TWIN TURBO V10 diesel. when i settle down and have kids i hope this will be my family car thumbsup.gif

simple answer is no.
but you can dose

the ranger is the same as the mazda bt50, plenty of turbo whistle.

dont fuck around with it, get a track car or nice street car when your off your p's

Just go uphill and listen to the turbo whistle (I have a turbo-diesel as well). My brother wants me to put a blow off valve on my car but there's no point, it's a DSG and changed gears in like 0.08 seconds.

Don't know if you can do it on the Ranger's but get it flashed. Best money I ever spent thumbsup.gif

Those bt50's have some serious turbo whistle.

bov's are there for a reason (release boost presure to stop it damaging the turbo) why would you go though all the trouble of adding one if you didn'tt actualy need it.

And here it will begin.

The old "No BOV does/doesn't damage the turbo" debate.

Even if you could why would you?

It does nothing to increase power and its a defect.

Not worth it in my opinion, if it was possible.

your talking about old diesel engines

he has a 2008 ford ranger which has a common rail set up which is all controlled by the ecu

common rail diesel engines dont use governors or adjustable injection pump

well whats that they have on those big patrols etc sounds like a truck?

always wanted to no..

lol ford ranger is a bt50 just different badges, im a mech at mazda, and it is possible to put them on as they have a vacuum pump that controls most of the soliniods, theres an electric boost sensor hook one of the vacum soliniods to it and use a pot to get it to open on a certain boost, but once this is done u must then remove the wiring to the stock boost controller, its really to much effort then what its worth, just sit back and enjoy the nice loud whistle

I made a 3" stainless dump and then put a 3" mild steel side pipe with 1x14" resonator. then a small intercooler and a 2.25" intake pipe right up under the headlight with a big k&n pod. ct20 turbo running 9psi. my van sounds awesome smile.gif

make sure if you get an aftermarket system you get a flex joint fitted up close to the front. otherwise you'll be forever replacing mufflers when the vibrations from the diesel break the pipes out of them.

There is a turbo diesel landcruiser that has put some sort of blow off valve on his ute, word is that it is a part of a washing machine weird i no's just google it see what comes up.....
