the pathfinder did come out 4wd V6. (VG30E) So just need to find the right bell houseing, But check the width of the twin cam turbo engine (VG30dett) frist they are wider then you many think. Maybe go for the Vg30det still 4 cam but single turbo. A lot cheaper to buy to.

Aisan Auto Parts 38081033.

They did have a 1/2 cut.

The engine has nothing to do with the actual 4x4 part..... Thats all taken care of with the gearbox/transfer case......

A 97 pathfinder might have the electronic 4wd selection thing, where you turn the dial on the dashboard. I am not 100% sure, but I think its vacum operated partly, and not just electric selection, so this may be sometyhing to consider with the motor.

also a VQ30det could be used cuz of its all alloy block and is more reliable than the VG30.

U will have a lot of trouble seperating the transfer case from the gearbox. If you want to keep it 4wd, you will have to have a gearbox - transfer case adapter made (to change gearbox), as well as having both the front and rear drive shafts changed in length. You may also need to have a look at the handbrake, because I believe also in the pathfinder its a drum attached to the rear tail shaft.
