Hey i recently got a 91 TT soarer.. and its well.. pretty quiet.. so i wuz thinkin of getting a noisy blow off valve just so it makes some hoon noise, does it really matter what sort/brand u get? and is it worth getting a new one or just go 2nd hand? and whats it cost to get someone to put it on the car? ta :twisted:

Few things, the Law... Go find out about that first. And the other, if your car does not need a BOV then you could be loseing out on power by getting one. As basically it releses the pressure, and the turbo then has to get it back up again. Go ask someone who knows about your car and if it needs one. BTW dont ask anyone who sells BOVs, as they will tell you, you need one. Anyway, why draw attention to yourself, you have a soarer, isnt that enoght! tongue.gif

Since a Soarer is Twin Turbo wouldnt you need two BOVs???

You can just use one BOV on a soarer. And the whole idea behind a BOV is to stop compressor surge...with out a BOV when you nail it and then back off all the pressure forces back on the turbine making it slow down very fast = bad :shock: The early tt soarers have a factoy BOV anyway.



You can pretty much go with any BOV you want seeing as your car runs of a map sensor and not a shitty afm smile.gif Avoid cheapies :x , as for sec hand it depends on brand and age really, at least with a new one you should be pretty safe and it shouldn't cost much to fit as theres not much to it

no u only need 1, just put it close to the throttel body or whereever the 2 pipes become 1

the noise u hear when u dont have BOV is cavitation (sp)...



the air being forced into the motor hits the closed throttle body and then reverses on its self... when it hits the blade of the turbo u get the nice sound... tho it couldnt tbe too healthy for turbo longevity.

have you thought about a, cheap as your mums service BOSCH unit???

they do the job and i recon they would cost about 50bucks for a brand newie!!! they take the boost i have had mine upto around 14psi!!! and you can easily make them make different noises as i have proven!!!! from hella quiet to hella loud and you can even make them wistle like a truck!!!! pfft you cant go wrong!!!! stuff spending $300 up for a half decent one!!!!

you can fit bottles, wistles, and anything you desire on the end of them they woek like a conventional bov

find a cap for the recirculating pipe on my car and project 'weird noise' will be underway..



mine can be pretty damn loud for a stock BOV... but thats what 15psi does



as for $50 mums service... she is waaaaay cheaper than that... i can assure you tongue.gif

blow13b, if ur refering to a stock plumback job being used to vent to atmosphere, all i can say is annoyying UNLESS of course u can get into it and put a phat spring in.



most stock bovs vent (plumback) when under a partial vacume when cruising , resulting in an annoying hiss. , hence why i had to put a sock over mine to shut it up a bit.

they vent under vaccum... hmmm why ??



wouldnt they vent under partial boost cuz the springs are just piss poor... i dunno really havent dicked with my bov without the no longer needed plumback pipe

Plumbback BOV's are designed to vent while at idle, ie, under vacuum..



There is a good reason for it but I don't remember why.. its not overly neccessary but its done for a reason. The good ol' bosch units are known to handle 1 bar.. (14psi).. I found that they leaked after that point when I was running 1.25 bar (18-19 psi) on my ol' silvia..



Anyways, any externally venting blow off valve that makes a loud noise will open you to various fines, such as undue noise, and breaking emissions laws, etc etc.. if you think that making the sound is worth the risk, then go for it.



If you want the sound without much risk, you can just let your factory plumbback bov do the job for you, all you have to do is get a pod filter instead of your stock airbox, and you'll get to hear it.. along with many other things.

ok.. how about i run a high flow panel instead of going the pod.. would that work well..



or will the pod give me the turbo spool noise that i long for ??



regarding emmissions laws on venting atmosphere... why is it an emissions problem if its jsut air that was sucked into the turbo then spat out again... it hasnt been mixed with fuel or oil....

is sneezing illegal??

and for anyone who wants to get all technical about it slowing the turbo down without one etc, take yours off & see for yourself, or go ask a turbo shop (as in supply & service, not rice), they will tell you that it won't really make any dofference or do any damage unless you are running stupid boost levels (around the 50psi mark etc) in which case, it may slightly shorten your turbo's life....anyone running 50psi?????? anyone????

what he is sayin is true. think of it this way. with a bov all air is vented when throttle is closed but the turbo freewheels more. with no bov the air is more trapped between the turbo and the throttle!!! either way i think its bull shit that you get more or less power both!!! although why would they put them on from factory??? the only reason i can think about is reliablility!!! as in long term. but either way i agree with dodgi that NO bov sounds heaps mad!!!!

i disconnected my factory recirulating pipe(car runs a MAP sensor)... just to get some wank factor appeal.. and after 10mins of driving i hated it.



the factory bov leaks on slight vaccum as mentioned b4 and makes a hissing noise until u reach boost, and on slow changes the

'pssshhht' just drags on and sounds real gay.



a nice dull pssht would be nice.. nothin that gonna scare the elderly pplz

hehe, my friends old car was a 2l 180 with a s15 front (strawberry nose 180) it had a turbosmart type3 supersonic on it, went past some woman who was walkin in the gutter and he let her have it, car was running 15psi too



man did she shit herself, she justabout cleared the footpath which she shoulda been walking on laugh.gif

Toyota BOV's being what they are, tend to bleed off at around 4 to 5 psi. the results i had with mine was that it did increase HP and gave me a bigger kick in the arse as boost came on. Obviously the standard turbo's on the TT soarer are only CT12 and those cars are renowned for having a very linear power curve, therefore you can't expect a big kick, but positives being that cool sound,
