Currently have a mate's JDM S15 to play with for a while. Amongst other issues it has a coil pack playing up. So i'm interested to know if anyone has replaced the oem units with splitfires, etc ... ?

like to know if it was worth the $$ or not.

cheers

Matt

A design flaw with the SR20DET blacktops in general is that - under heavy use, the middle 2 coils tend to overheat and start having problems. You would of noticed the spark plug cover - this traps in heat and on the circuit causes misfiring issues and ignition to start breaking down especially when you're in high rpm.

It is quite common for people to remove the sparkplug cover for circuit or drift use - this in conjunction with a vented bonnet help keeps air flowing over the coilpacks keeping them cooler, and keeping your ignition stable.

I've heard of people replacing the coilpacks - but this isn't generally done unless the engine has been heavily modified, or the existing coilpacks are old and have problems.
