OK I just watched this on "Wato's Wheels" segment on the Today program on chanel 9. Nissan Australia is set to bring back the Nissan Skyline GTR. Nissan admit since they stopped selling the popular 200SX it left customers a bing hole in their performance products. They also admitted that the 350ZX wasn't really living up to hard core performance customers expectations. "Godzilla" will sell for a round about $90,000. Nissan are also looking at bringing in some of their lower end, cheaper performance cars for the younger performance driver that doesn't have $90,000 to spend. They have come to realise there is a need for this due to the amount of imports that are on our roads.

I guess this is good news for Nissn fans, so now you people can buy them from showrooms brand new. But it will knock a savage blow to the import industry tho if it all goes ahead.

Your thoughts? Will $90,000 sell over here or is it to expensive?

I think the GTR will sell better than the 350z, but not in huge numbers.

The appeal of imports is not only that they are performance cars, but also that they are quite cheap. If Nissan brings over a lot more cars for local release that are currently imported, it won't increase their total sales a great deal, rather it will spread out the concentration of sales in the market... i.e. 30% of new pulsar buyers will instead buy a silvia.

Let's just hope that John Conomos the tosspot at the head of toyota is listening and we start to get some nice performance toyotas over as well.

If the big guys do it, there's a greater chance the smaller guys will follow suit and my dream of having Australian roads filled with buzzing Kei mobiles will become a reality!

i dont doubt that they are going to sell the gtr in oz,

i know that they are already planing " another rwd turbo sports coupe" due to the end of the "rps " line * aka s12,s13,s14,s15 *

I memba reading the new q35 gtr is going to make the 350z look like a toy car
last year it was reported tho they are ditching the rb26dett and goign a v8 . but i dont think any hard deisions have been made public yet,

personaly i have already $5.50 in my ash tay of my car for my gtr tongue.gif only $89,994.50 to go tongue.gif

*me thinks ineed a bigger ash try sad.gif *

Doubt it'll be turbo'd though, emissions are more strict now.

haha love the ash try call thumbsup.gif

nar its not an april fools, but i reckon 90,000 is a bit steep. not many ppl who are actually interested in using the cars for the purpose, are going to be able to afford that amount as most of them are in the re early 20's, and as avalonea stated $5:50 in ash try, well thats untill u drive past a macc's and remmber its lying there. i reckon that it would prob sell well but only to old stale bussiness men with there 25ft boat and wife with more gold chains and braslets then j.lo

just my 2cents anyway.

cheers tim.

90K is probably out of reach for most consumers. However i would rather pay 90k to an australian Dealer than 90k to an importer, purely for the added extras like warranty etc that will be included.

However it is also good to see that Nissan Australia have recognised a hole in the market which was not being serviced by Australian Industry.
It can only send good messages to it's loyal customers.

Yuck I hope they change that front end. They had it perfect with the R34. Rest of the car looks great, but those headlights gotta go!

That looks shit house ay id rather a R32/33/34 any day of the week over that thing looks like its still very conceptish if there is such a word Drink.gif

WE TALKING ABOUT A NEW GTR EMISSIONS WONT BE A PROB, THEY BUILD EM FOR JAP MARKETS. I SAY ITS A GOOD IDEA TO SELL THE NEW GTR HERE
BUT IS IT THE 34 OR THE 35 GTR

How many times do we have to go through this, it WILL have forced induction, twin turbos actually, the V8 rumour was discarded a loooong time ago (re:2002). Will be either a VQ30 or VQ32, very close to what the JGTC GT-R's are running with and will be released in 2007.

I should copy this paragraph as the same questions and "rumours" will be asked next month.

On a side note though, $90 thou is much cheaper then predicted. Originally they were thinking between $140-160 grand, this car will be in a league of it's own, Ghosn said his aim was to surpass the 911 in all facets.

Can't wait biggrin.gif

? the R34 ceased production in 2002, I highly doubt nissan would import 2nd hand R34's to sell rolleyes.gif .

it'll be even funnier if they do release it here...personally i'm willing to be money we'll see a oz delivered nissan wearing a GTR badge (or the next incarnation of) before the decade is out...thumbsup.gif

(and blame mitsubishi for the pricing...there's no way they could/would sell it cheaper than a evo)

90k is expensive but u have to consider what your getting for it...so i think its worth it...but thats just me

however i want the dodgy pricks to bring back the SR20DET RWD configuration

why not... everything else ends up with a gtr badge...

It was obviously bullshit as soon as you said 90k for a price tag. Try upwards of 150k if it were to be locally delivered, if the price of brand new r34's in Japan are anything to go by.
