Hey guys, i am very happy 2 say dat I am at last a prowd owner of a R32 GTR!! U guys have no idea how bloody rapt i am! Anyways, I had a few questions to ask, how do i turn off the 4WD light in my dash, wont turn off?? does anyone have any problems wit GTR gearbox/transmission? cause my 1 is much louder once it hits 4gear.. and da transmission in general is noisy.
I live in melb, does ne1 no of a place where i can take it 2 get it lookd at and if possible get it roadworthy? I have to get a roadworthy, as i bought it at a auction. U guys would never guess how much i picked it up 4!.....hmmm... $14,750! dunno wat u guys think but i reckon dats a bargain!

I'll say, I saw a written off GTR go for 12k, and it was broken into, stolen and trashed.

im telling you right now.
your going to get a e-flaming, because a) u cant type b) your bagging on people that have made and drive these cars as a daily.
and you will probably find that yes your odom has been wound back and the noisy gearbox will most likely mean your up for a new one....so in hiansight you didnt end up with a cheap gtr....but otherwise good luck with it and i hope your not trying to turn off awd to be a super fast drift racer on the streets.

1) i was baggin da japz at all! wot i meant 2 say is, they barely drive der cars cause of the heavy population in japan and the raods bein so congested. thus, the kms being so low....

I wouldn't not expect a gearbox to go at 60,000klms, shows me its either worn out which should not happen under normal driving condition for sometime (200kklms+) or its been thrashed.

So yes you got a bargain, but that'll probably change after you start fixing it.

Btw - a motor that's spent its life idling in traffic polishing the bores is going to be worse off than a motor that actually got used.

Well it's always the way when you buy an import, always a risk, even buying from a dealer here.

I know of a guy who bought a supra from a dealer, sold him a car with a cracked block.

I didn't know about this until too late, got a skyline from the same dealer, has a few probs, nothing as bad as the supra. but had holes in the boot from a previous spoiler, few small dents in the bonnet, the yard said was in perfect condition, when I got it found the probs, told them about the holes, their response was, we must have missed it, they told me to send them some pics of the holes, 6 in total covered with white tape, very noticeable, they got the pics, their response was, what would you like us to do about the boot? the car has already left.

so now i have to chase them to pay for the repairs.

Has the car been complied? I know it seems like a stupid question but given the price you paid it may be that you bought one that has not been complied yet. If so, your gona need more than a roadworthy. Good luck though regardless. GTRs are great machines.

congrats mate.

however, things can go either way from here.

there is a chance the ks can be genuine, do you have the original export documents from japan to prove it? do you have the orginal de-rego paper or auction paper? if not, it is very unlikely for a 17 years old car to have that little ks on it.

what condition is the car in? any mods on the engine? done a compression test on the motor? has the car previously been boy-raced or flogged? very often, getting the oil pressure reading can give u an indication of how healthy the engine is as well. so what is the reading on the gauge?

transmission generally is a problem, syncros can be worn quite quickly....quite often after the car has had a hard life, 3rd and 4th gears are the first two to go...

when it fails, rebuild the box using PPG gears or Os Giken gear sets, you will be set for a while. a decent box rebuilt using aftermarket gear sets can cost 5-8 grand easily.

maintaining a GTR is VERY VERY expensive. so be prepared

sorry did not try to be mean, just stating facts here.

if that was a genuine 60k car, theres no way it would have left japan.. genuine cars in japan command a VERY high premium. No way could we afford it, unless it was heavily damaged.

I agree with the above .. they arent your everyday V8 commordores !.. treat them well they are good thrash them they bite back twice as hard.. by the way .. since you own the car now .. . be prepared for things breaking .. A 32 GTR with genuine ks (export documents etc) would fetch more then some R33 Series 2 models .. either way they are awsome cars enjoy it responsbly !!

Thats a VERY optimistic assumption about how they drive GT-R's in Japan ....

Even with the auction papers Frank there is a chance the Odo has been tampered with ...

Don't think for one second that the Japanese car dealers are anymore honorable then a local second hand dealer ...

Also sounds like that gearbox is going to lose it's 4th gear ...

The cheapest I've heard of new GT-R boxes is around 3600 ...

those will be your famous last words. do you have the log book for the car? no? then they're not genuine, and there is not way to prove it really.

be prepared to spend lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of money on repairs, not mods. nissan's are notorious for breaking stuff, repetively, especially the older ones. add awd to that and you've got a mechanics worst nightmare.

enjoy your car but beware the nissan curse. i've seen a friend lose over $20k, just in repairs to a nissan. there are many more as well.

time will tell. good luck with your car, hope you enjoy your dinosaur tongue.gif (i'm not prejudiced! i swear) just kidding biggrin.gif

It's more selective buying ...

Generally if something is going cheap there is something wrong with it ...

In two years of owning my R33 I've only ever spent money on CV boots (which commonly go on most Skylines) and I might be up for coil packs ...

The rest of my money is on mods ...

So buying one that has records and is well maintained; while it might cost you a bit extra on the initial purchase price it will save you further on down the road ...

Congrats on your buy!

Your 4WD lighti s probably on because the fuse in the fuse box is missing... which means that the car is running rear wheel drive.... get a new fuse! smile.gif

I dunno about your transmission, but I hope you got the vehicle really really well checked out before you bought it!

Good luck! thumbsup.gif

bowrofl.gif that's real funny. Your worried now after you bought the car at an auction thinking it was a bargin. Now you've got a problem on your hands... You obviously are a very young person whose probably on your Ps without any experience in purchasing what so ever judging by the way you type. You just wasted your time/effort/$15,000 on a car you know jack all about and here you are assuming shit. ROFL. Research buddy before you go to an auction. They always have an auction list of vehicles with specific info online. LOL I bet you haven't got the money now to even repair this thing... well good luck with the headaches to repairing this thrashed GTR.

i was more referring to the older model ones. i had a 33 my self before and it went fine. but most of the pre 94 nissan's tend to fall apart on you. just little things continuosly. ask some of the guys on SAU, one has been fixing his up for over 12 months now laugh.gif and the other one has been named a garden ornament.

you are right though, it is selective buying. i hope for this guy, its not as bad as it seems, but it probably will. i haven't heard of a non-thrashed gtr before? do they exist?

all i have to say is "welcome to the world of nissan, try to enjoy your stay"
