Hey fellas, just wondering wat an actual exhaust silencer was and how much they cost.

I know they reduce the noise, but is it a muffler or just a device u can put in and remove at your disposal? How much power does it rob? 10-15kw is wat iv heard, is that correct?

Lol i used to have a silencer for my alfa way back when, most ppl would have heard that car , the noisest bucket of bolt they eva did c. I asume you can get them made up, but basicly it a cover that slides into your exhaust and caps it. It should stick out about 2cm longer then the origanal exhaust and have slitts al the way around on that 2 cm to let the exhuast gases out there. That car prolly had about 60hp until i discoverd i could take it off and that made a huge difference 10-15hp extra. My top speed jumped from 130km to 170km.

Holy crap, that is a big difference, how much less noise (does that make sense) did it (not) produce. For everyday i think its pretty good tho, the rexy isnt bullshit loud but just when coming home early in the morning for the neighbors sake.

Nah cams the tune up was already done, a cpl weeks befor and made no dif.

The loudness dropped quite a way when the silencer was put on, but will all bepend on how its made.

Most of the ones I've seen (all on imports) sit inside the exhaust tip....they don't stick out ne further but they are like a cone shape and make the diameter of your exhaust tip smaller hence reduce noise and power and yeah it'll rob a fair bit of power but they are usually just held in by a small bolt. Don't think it would cost much to get one made or you might even be able to use a pre-fab one and get it modified for your exhaust.
