a cheap one is probably only going to seize on you in a short amount of time (read: engine won't run). but it also depends what you class as cheap i guess.....the s15's have a factory one (and I'm assuming its in the same place as the s13/14's, under the front passenger guard near the intercooler). Being an airflow metered car your gonna want either a plumb back (no noise) or a hybrid (like the GFB & Turbosmart hybrid valves) where the valve still has a return hose to the inlet as well as a trumpet to vent the psssshhhhtt tongue.gif . Piece of piss to fit, most come with a weld on adaptor which you can get welded to the intercooler piping (the length closest to the rocker cover is the easiest) and then u just need to run a vacume feed to it to keep the valve shut (you need to remove the factory valve too so you could use the vacume hose that goes to it I guess)

I wrote an article on installing a turbosmart vee port bov to an s13 if its any use to you.

cheap valves will also give you grief if they have weak springs or dont close properly, ie they open on idle, this causes un-metered air to get into the engine, if the valve you buy is well made or adjusted properly there should be no problem.

The stock S15 BOV is located near / below the battery on the left hand side of the engine bay.

It will support at least 15psi. If you're just some noise, install a POD filter and wind up the boost. (it'll still work at standard boost)

well depends on where the stock bov is on a s15. if its like my s13 its next to the stock cooler behind it

take of ur inner wheel gard and you will see it . plug of the line going to the bottom of the bov and the line connected to the side. take the bov out and take off the t-peice used for the acuator and replace that line * mine used for zorst gas shit so i removed it all.

then have ur new bov welded on to some where just after the turbo and strap on a nice tight vacume hose

yeah......ditch the factory valve (like avalonea said) and get an aftermarket one....there not that expensive really.....some ppl vent their factory valves. I tried it on my 180 (just removed the return pipe to the air intake and plugged the hole in the intake pipe) but the car didn't run that well  so I would just fit an aftermarket.

But if your really lazy biggrin.gif then go to www.japanesemotorsport.com.au and have a look at their used parts section, they always have sec hand big brand name valves already welded to the section of intercooler pipe I mentioned above so it takes like 5mins to fit once you remove the factory valve tongue.gif

As I posted previously, its in the left hand side of the engine bay, just in front of the battery.

And you will be able to hear the "pshht" just by installing a POD.

Obviously, the more boost you run the louder the sound.

why waste cash on a new bov when the stock one sounds good enough?

Cause sometimes the stock BOVs can't handle extra boost.

Fair enuff... but I'm assuming Bundy's car is still pretty standard...

and the stock bov will handle the 12 pounds or so max he'd want to run it at with the standard cooler.

also, the stock S15 bov is good for at least 17-18 psi.

but then again, if money is no option... go all out an buy a fancy bov.

bear in mind that people have experienced problems with bov's that

vent to the atmosphere.

I'm just offering my advise based on my own personal experience where the car has been a slow process based on very little budget.

Good point. Cars that vent to atmo sometimes experience a drop in engine revs, especially when stopping at lights, in which SOMETIMES the car might stall. However, if the piping and connections are done right, the computer should compensate over time, providing their computer has some kind of learning capability.

I wasn't aware that a stock BOV could handle that much boost.

oh so all i need is a pod to get noise... WICKED!!!!! tongue.gif biggrin.gif but dont i need a adapter 4 it?? how much and where from??

BLU200
Post #18

You can get an adapter from Autobarn etc... (around $30) or you can get a custom jobbie for more cash.

Obviously it wont be a high pitched whistle like a bov that vents.

If you're super keen on a loud bov, go for a gfb hybrid with both

plumb back and a trumpet that vents to the atmosphere.

But the stock bov is still loud enough for me on boost... and unobtrusive

for everyday driving...

wicked thanks mercury biggrin.gif

would a GFB's hybrid fit into the std piping now???? :?

BLU200
Post #22

Dunno.. I've never seriously looked at changing the BOV.

:?

They also have a new bov advertised in the various 4 cylinder magazines where u can adjust the amount of air venting to the atmosphere to quieten them down for normal driving or making it loud when you want to cruise...

You would still have to get any aftermarket bov plumbed into the standard piping and then just get the factory one removed and sealed up....and don't be a fool, leave your air filter on :? If your prepard to butcher your standard airbox there is a nice little brass flange inside it where the airflow meter screws to the air box which should do just fine to fit a pod filter too...its not like your going to go back to the standard airbox ne way huh?
