For the hours worked, no don't do it.

Plus you will have to fight for work from the thousands of indians in brisbane which think they can drive

generally its half of the fairs you take in for the night.

depends who you work for

most normal drivers work on 50% pay-in of total earnings and of those.... some pay gas, others the owners pay gas.
so make $1800 in a week, you get 900 (possibly minus gas)

some lease a cab for the week for example.... and pay B&W or yellow for the equipment etc and you have free reign (good if you have another driver and can run the cab 24/7)

some own the plates etc (which we are talking hundreds of thousands of dollars each) which can be used (saving money if you drive, as you arent paying the lease fees)
or they can be leased back to black and white for 1000 a week/month i forget..or so

if you want to just do the test and drive, you also need to apply for a drivers authority etc.

to make good money.... you cant sit on your ass at a cab rank completely.... using your computer , login to nearby suburbs and check for fares... if theres a shitload of jobs coming and going to an area... head there.
if your area has fuck all.... move on... dont sit and play the waiting game, or you wont make shit.

my old man has leased/driven cabs (Cars and Maxi taxis) for years.
he is also a Rank Official (Taxi Council/Authority) in the valley Fri/Sat night

Lol... .no..

id suggest looking at something else.

perhaps you could bargain with an owner of a taxi to pay you by the hour.....
but no work = no pay...
so you would be hard pressed to find someone wanting to hire someone NEW... for an hourly rate

some shit drivers who sit at a rank or just get hails.... might do (after tax/gas etc) $300-$600 a week
some decent drivers who work the computer, know whats going on... and where.... .. perhaps scam some gold coast / contract (blood bank, hospital stuff) can make $600-$1200 a week
experienced and really switched on drivers can make $800-$3000 no worries

you get paid for the work you do.... so its incentive to realllly get into it.... opportunity is there to earn big dollars if you want it....
not bad for sitting on your ass listening to tunes and drunken conversations with only a minor chance of stabbings

Fuck This Sounds Shite

Ok guys averaging it out what would you expect the hourly rate to be??

ExodusDesign

theres no average...
depends WHO you work for

Cab companies dont have a yard with 1000 cabs and u pick one and jump in...

most are individually owned, (some have 1... some guys/companies have hundreds)

and each owner operates diffferently aswell.... in regards to pay and gas etc.

some owners have shitbox cars..... some are well maintained
(this needs to be considered if you want to earn big money.... you cant have your shitbox braking down everyday... or u get no money)
but the good owners with well kept cars and less staff, are less likely to hire a newbie.

it depends how good of a worker you are
it depends on if people are going somewhere at the right time / right place
it depends how efficient you know locations and shortcuts
it depends on what days/nights you want to work

As mentioned before, each individual taxi is a franchise for black and white/yellow cabs ect. Costs hundreds of thousands for a taxi license, so some people own one and some rich bastards own many. So it really depends how the owner runs his franchise.

My uncle drove cabs around north Brisbane on saturdays for extra cash and he would only earn on average $14 an hour for his 12 hour shift. So it wouldn't be worth it for some of the shit you have to deal with. These days we simply can't compete with the amount of foreign cab drivers. They're willing to work for next to nothing and usually shut most genuine Australians out of the job. They're fuckin' crazy, there was one cabbie who refused to let anyone put their luggage in the boot of his cab. Eventually the cab was searched and it turns out another driver was sleeping in the boot of the cab and they'd trade places every few hours in order to run the cab 24 hours a day. Fuck that.

goto your local taxi company yard and ask
I know the one just near sandgate road has more cabs than they can fit in their yard
the managers are australian too not foreigners
