hi

with a ef fairmont that needs some work how would you be able to go more places or plan ahead like you can with new cars when you know your car needs work and you cant really go many places or plan ahead as you never know what will go between now and then, old done up cars can be as good as new ones, how would you deal with it all if you cant afford all repairs at once that it needs.

only reason for keeping it is we like car and its already had heaps done which most people wouldnt have done to a old car

needs following

1. a au xr6 engine or el xr6 engine with a new head gasket and seals and gaskets for both engine options or v8 with seals and gaskets because its likely done a head gasket and you can get a cheap engine conversion for similar money to repair your old one properly.

2. new bushes and struts and steering rack and ball joints.

3. fix some wiring

4. new petrol system as its duel fuel and hasent been run on petrol for ages

5. eventually paint

6. few bits here and there

7. aircon repairs, cant fix it yet as dont know what engine going with yet

old cars can be as good as new ones and once its all fixed up should be good for long time as its had so much already.

dont have a big enough yard to get another one and not have to sell this to make room so decided to keep fixing it and just put up with it until its all done.

whats reasons why many others dont wait till car completely dies before getting another

also what engines can be put in a ef that doesnt need engineering, can think of a 302 and el/au xr6 engine (au if you dont cut k frame)

if anyone can help with answers thatd be great
