The 'local forums' section for Tasmania has been quiet for a long time.

Most people just stick to the areas that have the most activity, like the General Forums.

HSV_587
Post #3

not much tasmanian input in the general forums...and anyone whos been here as long as I have (2004 i think on my old account) will remember this place was the largest "tas only" car forum...then mods or admins on the mainland decided to get rid of the tas classifieds section...which was the death knell for this forum..its bloody sad really, seeing the wasteland this place has become...

The classifieds for Tasmania are alive and well, it's just that not many people bother to 'chat' anymore.

alive and well??...dude!!!...the tas classifieds are clinging to life support..its got the cancer, gangrene and heart disease...when we had our OWN locally moderated section on the top of the tas forum page, more adds would go up in a night than whats been posted in the last 6 months...funnily enough boost tas's downhill slide begun with the canning of that..

no state has that anymore.. and how does it effect you?. do you need a certain amount of items for sale frm tasmania to be happy with this site?. i dont get it.

It dont effect me whatsoever...but flick back a few pages in the tas topics and you may see how alive this place used to be..

Dude, the lacking activity in recent times has much more to do with the fact that social networking sites like Facebook have become the flavour of the decade.

The Tas section was much like the N.S.W section, would have its moments then nothing for ages...

HSV_587
Post #11

not really...i been here since 2004,and over the last few months its come up on FB between a few of us "old timers"....I agree with the FB thing...in the days following the local classifieds getting deleted, disgruntled boost members set up pages like "tassie carz" and others, and everyone moved from here to FB...this topic itself is the most action seen in the last 2 months...no doubt over the next few weeks, fellow old school boosters who check in from time to time might chime in too smile.gif

Draven
Post #12

Ive been here since 05, and was a moderator and never saw the Tassie section get much more traffic then the N.S.W section, the only other region sectin to get decent traffic apart for QLD was the NT area

HSV_587
Post #13

:/..I never posted this to debate the matter with mainland mods...but comparing tassie to NSW is like comparing a silky terrier to a doberman...tassie is a small place, with a small population, and an even smaller group of modified car enthusiasts, and most used to come here...the proof of what im saying is in front of you...this first page has topics spread out over 12 months...but go back to page 3 (before the classifieds, off topic wasteland etc got slashed),and theres constant threads going on for the next 60 odd pages..and the deleted sections were bigger still..but oh well, those with no idea about the tasmanian demographic made the big decisions...and tasmanians have responded by leaving BC in droves...well done.

You're still missing the point........

It's as if you're talking about being "victimized" when you spit this carry on rubbish about "mainland mods".

The lack of activity that you speak of applies to the site as a whole, not just Tasmania, your assumption that it has something to do with the classifieds is simply wrong.

HSV_587
Post #15

no,im not missing the point...yes,we are all still about..we all moved over to FB,and the community is alive and well..there was FB before as well too..im pointing out the REASON we all left and went to FB...constructive critisism if you like...

So, in your view, if there was a "classifieds" sub-forum for Tasmania, it would thrive?

Keep in mind that a sub-forum does not have any where near the capabilities of the main classifieds site, such as full featured search functionality, contact seller options, fraud screening, ability to filter by category/price/make/model, etc, etc, etc?

To be honest, I don't really understand why you feel that having a specific classifieds section has a direct relationship towards general (non-classifieds) related conversation, so I might be missing something... so I'm trying to understand...

After all... general chit chat has little to do with selling stuff...

HSV_587
Post #17

Well,it used to thrive before..im not sure when our subforum was deleted, but at a guess ild say late 2011 early 2012,as thats when the tas section started slipping into a coma...you would know better than me..but yea,im sure if you look into it,a lot of people left after our sub forum got canned..I did smile.gif, and so did a lot of others who are on the tassie FB pages

Yep I remember when the tassie section was probably the most popular one on the site lol. (2005 member represent)

I 100% blame Facebook. Not just the site itself but how it's evolved the younger generations. Useless arguing arrogant uneducated ignorant little fcukers.

I rarely agree with Mr HSV but on this occasion he is on the money, when classifieds were canned the change was not received well by a large percentage of members, it was the defining moment that stopped all activity on this state section. Pretty sure the forum stats going back from the dates that the classifieds were removed would show that quite clearly?
Most forums have suffered a downturn of activity due to facebook, which no doubt is part of the problem, but the forum change was the biggest killer in this instance.
I never used the classifieds myself (never really had a need for VL parts and fishtanks) but this place was great for grabbing a bowl of popcorn, settling back and being entertained by those as described in Proxeneta's last sentence.

It would be extremely easy and simple to show all the Tasmania related classifieds ads as a 'sub forum' again, but how does classifieds ads in a sub-forum for Tasmania result in people posting more general conversation topics?

SIM300
Post #21

I agree also. When local classifies was ditched I noticed the traffic disappear. I had sold a handful of items using this site & now it isn't even worth attempting to sell anything here.

On a separate topic, are there local car gatherings anymore (south)???

Well the simple answer to that is if people come to see the classifieds and the other topics are right there in front of them their much more inclined to get involved.

That's what I think, it makes sense to me.

well said proxeneta...the classifieds were the reason I logged on,and the shit I used to dribble and occasional useful advice I gave in general discussion/technical topics was the result of me sitting here, refreshing my browser, waiting for the next bargain to pop up,or shitfight to break out.

The aftermath started with threads being deleted when people complained about our classifieds sub forum getting shut down, certain mods flexed thier E muscles, and we all moved over to the new boost classifieds, "Tassie Carz" on facebook...where everythings gotta be swapped for a VN,braaap or magna, and the shitfights are just as entertaining as boost 2009 smile.gif
Tasmania spoke with their keyboards...Well,at 24 comments in this thread, its the most popular thread in 18 MONTHS!!!
Thanks all for getting involved on this monumental occasion smile.gif

My memory aint that bad either..local mods (which, incedently, were quite good) informed us it wasnt thier doing, and you,Mcleod, was quite vocal in a "where da fukc is our classifieds" thread...

Ya's done a johnny howard smile.gif...f'king with our classified subforums was your "workchoices" moment

I would hate to say I told yas so...but yea, most popular thread in 18 months...that says it all smile.gif

Looking forward to more tassie members returning to have thier say

I originally came here for the classified and stayed for the chat, I can totally see your point at how one change to a site and lack of response to complaints from mods can change a site a lot. I have noticed myself the classified section has more than died off, so less visitors and a shift towards "Stalkbook" forums will slow traffic.

If there was at least 1 alive thread. as this one is - I'm going to keep coming back to check it. If there were other threads i.e. classifieds. Everyone else will do the same.

Maybe nobody cares for internet forums anymore. Just Facebook groups.

HSV_587
Post #32

Well, once we get past 34 comments, this will be the longest running thread in over 2 years...and its not all forums prox...but when forum owners/admin etc wont listen to what us,as contributers say, have a power trip, and threaten to ban members for offering "constuctive critisism" this is the end result...

The biggest thread in nearly 2 years is a thread critisizing admin for not listening to what the tasmanian boost community tryed to tell them...ohh,the irony smile.gif

PROXENETA
Post #33

To be honest McLeod does listen. And to his defense, he's only doing what is best for the website not just the Tassie section. I'm pretty sure boost is bigger than it has ever been in regards to traffic and users. Just no longer in the regional forums, or more specifically Tasmania.

Though it would be nice to have a social forum again, but at the end of the day it's up to the users. Classifieds section in here or not unless we force people to come here, they won't come willingly. Again, Facebook is easier and quicker.

This would have to be the first time I have logged into this site since the classifieds went down. HSV and Proxeneta have it right, once the localized sales left, so did a lot of the people. We all love a bargin. Bring it back and the people will slowly return. Gumtree has sort of filled the void as far as bargain car hunting goes, but it was always nice to get a little feedback on the ad's. Say if a car had had a rough life.. You would know about it through the forums either by private message or people just chucking there 2c worth in to make sure you didnt get stooged. I dunno.. Maybe those days are gone.

yea. there was alot of good and alot of bad that came with

being able to comment on someones

car ad.
i liked the fact that everyone could see interaction with the buyer so u kinda knew what the go was before you would follow through with with a private inquiry.
but still. alot of the time jealous or just plain fcukstains would come into the thread and make the next three pages about seeing the owner do a skid in the car once in inala that one night.

(just example)

but alot of funny and entertaining stuff came out of the back and forths within advertisement threads.
sometimes it helped your car sell.. and sometimes it doomed the sale from the get go.

but at the end of the day. who cares bout tassie.. as long as queensland is still posting lol.
