Hey guys.

Just wondering if its possible to check online how many demerit points you currently have on your license if your living in QLD?

I know you can do it on the RTA website but I couldnt find it on the Queensland Transport site.

Also if you cant do it online, how do you check?

You can check by ringing up QT and asking mate

Unfortunately there is no online method to check demerits in QLD

the only option is to ring up and enquire, or go in to QLD Transport and ask. (and if you go in, you will be charged, unless your paying a fine at the time...)

Also another Question if you dare to answer, When are demerit points renewed on an open license? someone told me its 12 points renewed every 3 years but I dont know if thats correct

3 years.

if you lose 3 points for speeding on the 2nd of December 2006, you will get them back on the 2nd December 2009.

however the same applies for any more fines that you recieve. ie, if you then get another fine on the 19th Feb 2007, you will not get those points back till the 19th of Feb 2010.

So you would have 6 points to last you from the 19th of Feb 2007 till you got your original 3 points that you lost on the 2nd of December 2009.

Just to add in...

The old loophole has now been fixed.

Once upon a time, (6 months ago laugh.gif ) you could have 12 points, say you loose i dunno, 18 or so for various reasons, you lose your licence as expected, BUT when you get it back, you only get 6 points.

Why? thats because only the first 12 have been delt with, they still need to "action" the other 6.

So the good ol days of racking up 27 points on your provisional licence (hangs head in shame) are over.

Just food for thought.

Does the rule still apply if you pay your fine by cheque and you write more than the actual amount needed to be paid QLD Transport sends you a cheque back for the amount they owe you and if you do not cash that cheque points are not taken away because the transaction is not complete?

Eg: Speeding fine: 3 points and $200
You send cheque for $205
QLD Transport send cheque back for $5
You throw cheque away for $5
Making transaction incomplete.

Does anyone know if this still works?

Yes they do flash, but it would depend on (as you mentioned) whether the camera was facing you, and just how late you left it. Red light cameras work on the principle that when the light goes red a sensor underneath the white line is activated, and it will take two photos one second apart if you cross the line. The second photo is to confirm you went through the intersection, and didn't just stop a little too late. So therefore if you had crossed the line before the light turned red, you should be safe. Moral of the story though, if you can safely stop on amber, do so!

Not sure if this is still correct or not but it use to be that if you originally got your open licence when you only had to have to P's for 12 months........ then you still get your points back after 12 months not the 3 years.

Or they want an excuse to get through that damned red light that will take 5min to change? laugh.gif facesjump.gif

Maybe the moral of the story should be not to do it at a intersection monitored by a red light camera? dunno.gif
