1.6L vs 2.0L
4A will rev higher, 3S has more torque. They're reasonably similar, also it depends which generation of each you are comparing as they both were made for a while. Any reason for this question? Are you looking at buying one of them?

also is this in the right section or should this be in car help & advice?

well not sure what generation, what would you recommend? and yeah well im trying to plan what to do with the celica so yeah will be buying one sometime in the future, the car will mainly be used for drifting but also daily.

3SGTE is probably your best bet. Neither of those engines will work well for drifting NA, and if you're gonna be going forced induction then its better to start with something turbo from factory. Gen 3 engine would be the pick, can be had reasonably cheap and is the strongest design once you start boosting it.

GEN3 3SGTE or GEN4 3SGE ( BEAMS)

Depending how much you want to spend and what result you want, 5SFE block with the 3S head, needs a bit of work but a few people have done it with their MR2's. Don't forget about Toyota's

I had a 4age absolutely loved it.
Came out of Japan with-
Port and polished head smallport head
Blacktop block
Springs upgraded
Hks cams
Power fc
Cam gears
Forged piston owed 2grand
Made 120kw and was a blast in a roller. Celica is a bit heavier I'd agree to going a beams motor
for the same money pushing a 4age uld get a beams motor with more power and newer fresher so to speek

Beams engines are awesome, you'd be silly if you were going to choose a 4age over one of them. A Beams will out rev, out power and has everything over a 4age. You really need to be in a Beams Powered car to understand

Awesome, anyone know how hard it would be to fit one in the RA60 properly, what are some of the things i would have to do?

Didn't mean to say you can't use an NA motor for drifting, but you'd need to work it a bit in a reasonably light car. Any of the drift events I've been to have been solely turbo cars.

3S into a celica is gonna require a lot of custom work. Mounts, new fuel system, wiring, brake upgrade, etc. Definitely not the thing you can do on the cheap.

That's because comps are comps.

There are loads of NA car that slide and very well I might add.

a well sorted 3sgte will be good in an ra60 but i would go a 1j over it every day of the week start off with something that was meant to be rwd and it will work out much cheaper.
