Hey guys, just started spraying a bit of 2pac on some replacement panels and wanted to see what ratios other people are using

ratios for

primer:hardener
base coat:hardener
clear coat: hardener

also what psi is everyone using when using a hvlp gun?

Its all relative to the brand you are using. Directions should be on the tin.

This.
Different ratio's per brand and product.
1:1, 2:1, 3:1, 4:1..... You get the idea.

If you get it wrong it will not go off.

And for the pressure, it depends on alot of factors: How you spray, what you're spraying, amount of thinner etc. Different for every person/ job.

download the correct data sheet for the products you have have.
It will tell you exactly the mixing ratios etc.
Will probably also tell you the recommended pressure to run in your gun.

Most primers are 4:1
Most 2k and clears are 2:1
And most base coats are 1:1

And about 1.5 bar for base coat and 2bar for clear

Primer is 4:1 and 10% thinners
2k solid is 2:1 and depending on the brand it can be 1 part or 10% thinners
Base is 1:1 using thinners not hardner.
Clear is 2:1 and 5-10% reducer.

And generally around 17-19 psi on the gun.

I'd like to see an automotive spraypainter attempt to spray a 60ft yacht in marine coatings, a solid @ 40% summer thinners. wink.gif

I've seen car painters over the few years when I used to paint, talk their gun skills up, and when it came to the business end, promptly fuck it up pretty badly. I've painted a couple of cars, other than the tricks of the trade; certain masking techniques etc. it is alot easier to paint a car IMO and the products are easier to spray. wink.gif

What brand of paint did you use?

-Oh, and with a 60ft yacht, you have the extra 20ft of hull in length and 1-1.5m of extra height in the hull to paint.

Yeah but it's a single hull yacht. The one i painted was a twin hull. So really 84 foot of painting. Can't remember the brand name. The customer suppied it.

Paint brands surprisingly make a BIG difference. If it was in Sterling or Awlgrip in a linear paint then my hats off to you.

I use PPG and have never put hardner in the base and only thin it 1:1. As do all the other painters i know.
