definatly get some of the older car enthusiasts onto the bwcp scene, all the hot rod boys from harrys diner, show that its not just young people that are in the car scene.

well also let them know how unfair the police can be towards us, like by setting up a defect station outside car events? also getting defected by having no water in the windscreen bottle? im sure most of the public would laugh at some of the fines we get?
they are all totally unfair on us
im sure they could do better things with there time rather then fining us for the most stupidest thing?
go rick!

Yeah just a meet at BWCP should do.
Get interviews with enthusiasts around and show them that we're responsible people.

Seriously, dont you guys have anything better to do with your lives apart from worrying about being labelled a "hoon?"

We could be off doing other things, but there is a large portion of cruisers out there who are sick and tired of being blamed for something they didn't do.

This is a way to show who is the bad and who is the good.

track day or event, perhaps some photos and a discribion of the bc charity day

i think the drift-days at queensland raceway - and the fact that noone does burnouts up and down the street afterwards could be a good start?

showing a charity cruise would be a good one aswell (a worthwile charity mind you) as its generally only the minority that dont or cant afford to donate that are the trouble makers (i dont need to give examples)

well done rick - good to see someone with knowledge and the ability to put together a decent well-written debate has taken the reigns thumbsup.gif

How about the fact that defect stations are setup around motorsport event.. ie willowbank.

People go to take their sport/hobby off the street and are punished for it. Very bad image, if people know they are going to be locked down and unfairly scrutinised after doing the legal thing, they will end up not going at all and racing on the street where at least they may have "some" chance of getting away with it

because being labeled a hoon means we get pulled over atleast once a week for "random licence inspections" "defect checks" etc, it becomes annoying after a while when you have done nothing wrong. people calling the police and giving your rego because your car is louder than normal or has this and that done to it and labelling you a "hoon". everything that king has gone through to get us this opportunity has been worth it so far so dont go ruining it now!

KING - if you are going to set up an event or something, figure out something so no idiots turn up

mate if our cars were done up illegally, there would be alot less of them on the roads, but as u can see from the event pics, theyre all still there, yeah some have cut the springs and done illegal shit to them but theyre the ones that go to the industrial areas and backstreets and drag, those kids at the gold coast that got blocked in from the residents, how many of them belong to this site??? how many of their cars were done up to the extent of the ones on here?? how many of them were imports or actually looked respectable??? none, all i saw was a few holdens with panels from other cars, and a n14 pulsar. did u see anyone from bwcp on the news that night??? no so give it up and worry about melbourne

zillaswrx
Post #16

VS_SeV - when someone spends the thousands of dollars on a properly installed suspension setup then gets pulled over for a "random licence check" and ends up getting done for having a car that sits at 98mm instead of 100mm - is that really fair?
especially when its alot safer than any other brand new factory car (let alone the typical 1980 cars with chopped springs and wrecked shocks)

but as kotcj said - you arent even part of the se qld car scene.

Why does everyone have to bitch about this topic. We all wana be able to drive our cars on the road equally and not be harrased. I got no defective item on my car. Yet I get pulled over all the time for shit and its beyond a joke. Then there is the attitude you get from the police, when all I do is cruise along the st, changing at 3000rpm. Its all a crock of shit if you ask me.

Rick, you're efforts are to be congratulated, there is a lot of "talk" about trying to get our point of view across, but you are one of the very few who seems to put words into action..........

I don't really know what would be a good place to hold an "event" to get the message out to the public, wello point up here would just be too small considering this is on more than one forum, so BWCP or Sunshine Coast seem to be more sensible in terms of logistics.

Rick, once again, congrats on the response from CH7 and good luck with the outcome, i'll be watching 7 with interest in the coming weeks.

should get the crew to come along on a cruise, and show them the normal night of a cruise group.

And then they will see the trouble makers and how we get seen by our side.

STOP YOUR SPAMMING AND LISTEN TO THE POINT.

A large meet somewere reasonably quiet, so as no "hoons" show up and crash the event, have a large range of drivers and cars, from 17yo's like me with relativly stocko cars, to the older people who have poured alot of money into there passion. see if CH7 will be willing to do afew interviews with a wide range of drivers/enthusiasts to get a range of opions on the matter. we ALL want what is best for the car scene and for this to happen we cant sit here bitching to each other about it, finaly someone has put alot of effort into setting up a chance to make a good name for the car scene, it would be a good contrast for the general public to see instead of the usual "goddamn street racers" reports. there are and always will be idiots on the roads, but we have a chance to make an impact on the general publics opinions on us and this is a rare and valuable oppertunity. lets show them that we are mostly responsible drivers and citizens smile.gif I am happy to help out in any way towards this cause.

thanks

The way i see it if don't play by the rules you can't do nothing

If your washer bottle is not full , fill the bloody thing one less stupid thing not to get defected

I feel sorry for a lot of skylines and vl's they always get in trouble

The best thing is by a brand new car and they can not do nothing

One night i saw a copa defecting 10 cars at one car park for stupid things and than checking a brand new ss ute smile.gif couldn't find a bloody thing wasn't happy

Besides there a lot of good policeman out there

Your ongoing efforts are commendable, and it's great to see some progress at last.
I may get flamed for this, but those willing to front up for this meeting should be considered and assessed by you...eg. some sort of screening procedure for drivers and their cars. I say this because it only takes one person/idiot to take us all back to square one in the eyes of the public. it's posted on a public forum and word of mouth being what it is, someone will hear and think..."great. I get to drop skids on national TV."
Just a suggestion and my reasons behind it.

Congradulations on your effort in putting our side of the story to the media. We all owe you a big thankyou. Now to answer your question that noone seems to be answering.

1. I think a big cruise similar to the christmas charity appeal we had.
2. Make it bigger and better than ever.
3. Invite the 'everyday' public to attend make it like a normal everyday car show that people of all ages can enjoy. Not just us. (like mentioned get some old schoolers to come with their old t buckets and what not)
4. Organize clubs and business to attend to show off what they have. As well as police and local officials to come?? Maybe have a section to show off their cars?

Dont know if it helps, but if you need any help i'll be there!!

Well thank you to all those that have had something positive to say/add, it's very much appreciated. It took me a good 6 hard hitting e-mails and a few phone calls to pull this off but I can't do it alone I need EVERYONES help.

I'm thinking maybe a massive cruise to maybe the Sunny coast etc and having the Salvo's etc (some charity) put on a BBQ lunch for us. Plus of course them following some around in the BWCP looking to make examples of the trouble makers etc.

boostn_sil80
Post #28

Sounds good You'll will just have to make sure that you can fit what 300 or more cars somewhere at the sunshine coast in an area reasonably close to each other which is why i personally think it might be better having it at the bwcp? And also a few weeks notice so people can get work off and organize their cars and what not.

I personally think a smaller group of nominated spokespersons need to speak out - perhaps from not just the cruising scene, but also the people from the drag/drift sides of things. People who truely want to improve the public image like Rick, who constantly goes out of his way to try and make people see our side of things, and bring the council, the enthusiasts, the law and the locals all together on an even playing field.
As much as I love the idea of another huge charity cruise, I think we need to get our point across, not our numbers...

I'm sure we could organise some way for people to submit ideas for things to be discussed by the nominated people...

I agree with your idea of selected spokes people. If we could get them to commune with said officials they can put the ideas forward at a person to person level. How ever, I reckon they should also hold a cruise to let them know how many people don't like the way things are as well and the spokes people saying why...

Well i am in two minds here.

1) rick i dont know why u bother personally after all u and myself hardly cruise anymore like we used too plus both of our cars are legal and dont get hassled.

2) Why bother helping the ppl who go cruising who couldnt give a fuck anyway. If they gave a fuck they would have sorted the wankers out at the BWCP long ago and still not do the big arse 200+ car cruise crap blocking the m1 every sat night and going to places like shell mudgereeba and computer rd etc etc.

I had channel 7 contact me a few weeks back josh wanting to do a story from our side but after hearign the wankers vandalising the cop car down the bwcp i thought to myself WHY FUCKING BOTHER!

Half of the sook who whinge week in week out on here about the bwcp and cops hassling them do any of u fuckwits tell ppl at bwcp and other local hangouts gold coasta nd brissy to stop doing the wrong thing when they do them?????

Do u make sure ur cars are fully legal going by current DOT rules?

Do u abide by the road rules?

Until half of these wankers start pulling thier weight and not leaving it up to a handful off ppl to sort out the problem i coudlnt give a fuck about the cruise scene.

Hence why i could give a fuck about going out cruising of late been out 4 times ona sunday sicne indy.

For starters when everyone was whuinging about the esplanade and the cops we suggested everyone head over to the BWCP on a sunday and the comments were that will be boring.Well hate to tell u all this but hanging at the spit like u all do is boring there isnt much difference between the two places.

ANyway after setting the bwcop up back in march 2000 and keeping it under control for 2 yrs with a few mates of mine im glad to see ppl step up and keep telling the fuckwits to fuck off.WHAT they arent well gee surprise fucking surprise its a lot fucking easier to jump on the net and whinge on monday about the cops hassles and the wankers wreckiong it for every genuine car enthusiasts.

SOME OF U @#$!S GROW SOME BALLS AND STAND UP FOR WHAT U WANT OTHERWISE UR NEVER GOING TO WIN THE SUITUATION OVER WITH THE WANKERS WRECKING IT FOR EVERYONE ELSE.

Maybe some of u should have taken notice that the council have supported us by leaving the BWCP open now why dont u get rid of the wankers and underage drinkers wrecking it for everyone, and show the council they made the right decision

The only fault in this, is that certain people, possibley members of this site, or possibley associates of these member, may attempt to ruin this for the rest of us. Intentionally doing burnouts and whatnot, in order to gain attention to themselves for some stupid reason (perhaps the same reason that they fry up their tyres) And for the plainly stupid fact that, they just dont give a rats. Still, Should Mr. Curtis, I myself and more than lickly most of the other entusiasts on this site, am greatly impressed, and gratefull for this opertunity.

you all have to think out side the square...it will be recorded so it can be edited , the bloke on ch7 does have the link to this forum so he can view what is being said and im assuming that his smart enough that not all idiots drive cars there are some "hoons" that are normal and we dont want to wreck shit for the rest of us...
and in sure that if "we" find out who is gunna do a "skid" will be repremanded in one way or another and not be linked to us(bc) at all
its good to see that someone is pasionate about what he thinks and some of us should get behind him as we are and support rick and other car fanatics in what they belive....
and btw he wants ideas not negitive shit ...keep the negitive stuff to ya selves...
unfortunatly i cant think of somewhere apart from the broard water car park (bwcp) due to its size ...maybe rick ask gccc to use it on a sat night and if it can be blocked off....as it can be coz the gccc own it...good luck anyways and help just email me...i will try me best

hope this makes sense

i totally agree king, perhaps show the level of detail and love that has gone into the cars, the care that is taken of them, the level of maintance that these cars get etc, it would put most of the average drivers to shame as to how well kept our vehicles really are kept and are much safer than the average joe's car because we maintain them with passion! I just hope and pray that the story does not get twisted again like so many others and make us all look like the villans again sad.gif

is it possible to hire out broadwater carpark....cause if it is you might be able to have like a carshow thing there on a sunday and not have all the fishing boats there......charge people from the site or on the day pay money to have your car on display or just walk around and look and then have a mass cruise afterwards.....
just a suggestion

If we can keep the ideas intellient and sensible as we already have then I might be able to speak to Darren and see the possibilites of making into something bigger i.e. a "Today Tonight" story (which it probably should be because it's a long and complicated issue).

There are so many points to raise, comments to make situations and remedies for parts of the car scene it's not funny. At least we are being given the chance this time, not just forgotten about like we usually are.

Thanks to those that took the time to read my original post and add useful, helpful and contructive criticism. Rome wasn't built in a day, so I don't expect massive changes over night, but if we can get the constabulary, government and media etc to sit down and talk things through I really believe with some common sense we can sort this mess out once and for all, plus show the public we are decent law abiding people.

P.S. Kells, I hope that's not you naked in your avatar? Ewwwww Kelly naked (throws up tongue.gif )

I am whole heartedly agreeing with Kells here. When/if what ever is done, it needs to be a selection of nominated people to attend that have a positive impact on the cruising/enthuisiast scene. People who are well spoken and think before they talk.

My first thoughts on people would be Rick, Mcleod and Darren (180GO). People who have actually had an impact on the way things are run. Rick, because he's gone to all the trouble of setting it all up. Mcleod being the owner of this site which most of the brisbane car scene are members of. And Darren for his positive look on motorsport with taking it to the track and setting up driftzone so enthuisiasts have a controlled, legal and safe environment to do what they love doing.

My biggest concern with doing something like this is one person says something wrong and the media can turn it around and make it look bad. If we have a big group of people, there would be someone that will wreck it for us. It only takes one person to wreck everything.

One point that has also been put forward is the defect stations outside legal events set up to take the hooning off the streets. They want us to take it to the track, so we do, and then they punish us for it.

My 2c.
