Is this organised by the LMRE?

I will stick a news item up on my site, I would love nothing more than having lakeside re-opened as a club venue, it would give me somewhere to race my HQ when its finished.

Have the local media outlets been advised? This issue needs some profile to force PRSC to reopen the track, it is an absolute waste of a great track.

Have to book that week-end in for sure. I only live 5 mins away and it's a pain in the arse to drive an hour to go to a rather boring track for any motorsport events in Qld.
I'll try and be there for sure.............

this is on toymods and performance forums now...

can you advise if you've involved the lobbying group working towards getting the track back on operation <www.lakesideraceway.com> ?

Are you sure about access to the track? - the Pine Rivers Shire Council seems to only lets select people/groups onto the track at the moment.

Anyway, it'll also get a mention at up-and-coming Toyota Car Club Qld meetings and you'll probably get some club members turning up.

Has this been organised properly?

The LMRE hadn't set a date for this protest cruise although they had been speaking about it.

Myself and the club are not assocciated with the organising of this event i am just a messager. We are supporting it fully and are hoping it is a success. I am hearing word that the event might be cancelled yet with fears for public liablity problems. I will probably be finding out more on the weekend and i will post it here as soon as i know. Thanks for the support guys and i hope we have no dramas.... TONE!! TRUE STREET CAR CLUB dry.gif

Thanks for the update.

You need public liability insurance for a protest cruise? That is ridiculous IMO.

sorry, but that rings my bullshit alarm.

you don't need public liability to drive on a public road - you have suitable insurance via your 3rd party paid with your rego.

the council's insurance would cover you on the the track site as long as you are legally entitled to be on the site and while you are only doing things on the site that the council has allowed you to do - which would be parking your car and walking on the track as the original post suggests?

insurance would only be required if you were conducting a competition event (like a Nav run or Regularity trail) on public roads - and you get that coverage by virtue of being in a CAMS affiliated club, having the appropriate CAMS license and the event being CAMS sanctioned.

Are you perhaps trying to say that the council might stop it as they think their insurance doesn't cover the site?

anyway ... can we get back to the thread - if you're not organising the cruise who is? and can we contact them to join the run and then walk onto the track?

I"m just passin on what i have been told! I will tell the organisers to post something on here when they know. I cant get any answers out of them at the moment and i can't give their phone numbers out as they are their private residences and i know i wouldn't want my number splashed all over the net.I won't be postin any more about this event as i am not copping any shit if it doesn't go ahead.... YOU DON'T SHOOT THE MESSAGER!!!!!!!!!!!! C ya's on the road angry.gif

wasn't trying to be harsh, just trying to get the facts as this could potentially be huge. It is already all over the internet so...? I really hope it goes ahead and the media/politicians and public can see that there is a lot of us out there that really need somewhere to go.

thechuckster
Post #23

sorry if i was harsh - but the last thing the lakeside lobby need is dodgily organised cruises, and it's frustrating when only you've got 50% of the story.

can you encourage the organisers to get onside with the lakesideracing group? there's a huge number of clubs supporting them now - if the event has their support, it'll be huge.

The last thing they need is a whole bunch of people turning up, pissing off the golf club and local residents, then invading the track without approval from the council (who own it). The council would take advantage of any opportunity we provide them to get an excuse to keep the track closed.

That's why i (and others here and on PF) am querying the cruise so intensly.

It's already got attention on toymods & performance forums for starters, it got a mention at the toyota car club (the old celica club) meeting and no doubt it'll spread further - instead of leaving it die a lonely death, get information on these sites so they don't have to post phone numbers and names. Tell the organisers to post info like:
meeting place
starting time
route
what to do when we get there

there's a sticky in the threads about cruise etiquette at the top of this section that tells people how to organise a cruise - tell them to follow the instructions.

there's no point keeping it secret to avoid police attention - they dislike surprises much more than bunches of rev-heads driving legally in packs on the road.

fwiw, i'll go for sure if i can get onto the track, even if it's on foot - i stop there everytime i drive back from the sunshine coast - it's a mavelous place and has great views of the lake.
