Post #1 post 27th February 2009 - 08:06 AM
looking to get a small loan 2000-3000ish to fix up bits an pieces on my car.

i just Fu**ed the exhaust up on a gravel road it now runs straight of the extractors...

although i spoke to one place an apparently my credit file is "busy" as in ive had 1 or 2 more credit checks within a mth period than most lenders look at.

so my question is does anyone no of any more lenient lenders that look more towards if you can afford it?? rather than the checks?

only reson it has a few is cause when i needed some finance on the car to start with my application was sent to a few places to try be approve but the banks dont care.

if i was in your spot and i was about 3 months ago, i wouldn't get a loan at all.

i now have everything i wanted when i wanted the loan, and i dont owe money.
if that makes sense lol

but yeah, that's what i'd do bro

Not a very smart idea if you ask me. People loan money that they cannot afford. Put the exhaust on Lay By or ask your parents to help you out.

X2.

Don't get it if you can't afford to pay for it straight up.

a credit card would give you up to 55 days to pay the exhaust off

if you can earn enough in that time, then go for it... application takes like 5 minutes

That's more or less why the we are suffering the current global financial crisis.... millions of people given loans they couldn't afford to pay back, or had a too tight a margin... head_wall.gif (not saying that you did't pay your load off, but obviously millions failed to do so around the globe as individuals or businesses)

its not that i cant afford to repay a loan, i could easily pay one off... i just have a busy credit file so they say its all good then do a credit check and tell me ive had to many checks within 6tmths.

i earn enough to service a loan, but dont have enough atm to get my car fixed and i need it to get to work.

Doesn't matter whether you earn $15604932pa or $15000pa, if you have a bad credit history (or in the event of the OP, one with multiple applications, which they like to see as bad) you won't be getting a loan.

Getting a loan to use on car parts is a terrible idea. If you can't afford it, forget about it for the time being. If you desperately need that exhaust then as suggested, borrow some money from a family member or someone trustworthy that isn't a bank.

The only people that ignore credit ratings also charge through the roof for interest, so forget that idea regardless.

One possibility is a number of automotive places now offer Certegy as a payment option, yes you need a deposit but your credit history won't be a hurdle.

loan shark style, just pay it off real quick or you'll get 'financially' knee capped, like a 40% interest rate.

If you can afford the loan, and I mean actually afford it, then you will have no issue what so ever obtaining a loan. However, if it is tight problems will arise.

Most banks will only loan a minimum of $5000 for a period of at least 12months as a personal loan so think about it. A credit card is an option, but the interest rate on those hurt, and it will take at least 2weeks before you can swipe the card anyway. So think about it wisely.

While you are thinking, make sure that you don't make unneeded credit report checks as even though you might not have taken the credit card, loan, mobile or whatever that they credit checked for, when banks do credit checks it just returns how many checks have been done in the last 3, 6 and 12 months; no other details.

For a small amount like this, and your credit file in the shape it currently is, I would be inclinded to tell the mechanic to not do the work and save, or borrow some money from family and pay them back when you can. If getting your car back on the road is needed (like you would lose your job without it) then ask the mechanic to just do the work that is needed to be drivable again - might mean bolting on a stock exhaust for a few months; but that is all you can afford, so live with it.
