This is driving me absolutely insanely CRAZY!!

I just installed a new stereo system for a cousin of mine. It consist of an amp, sub, speakers, head unit. Here's the thing, the stereo system works perfectly and I have done this installation for a few friends so I guest you could say i'm familiar with the task. The problem I came across was that after the installation the illumination lights/dash lights won't turn on. But everything else electrical works perfectly fine.

There was one problem that occur while doing the installation.. while disconnecting the + connecter to the battery before working on the car.. i accidently touch a - part of the car which created a lil spark. So yeah originally I thought it was that.. so I checked fuse, dash bulbs and yet everything seems to be in working order. Nothing visually seems to be burnt or out of the ordinary.

I even came to a point where I reinstalled the whole stock stereo system just to make sure I've done all the wiring correctly.

Please any advice or suggestions would be very much appreciated.. this is driving me absolutely crazy, hence the time this was written sad.gif

I'm just gonna change all the fuses even though i've checked them just so I now for sure it isn't the issue.

The car is a Toyota starlet which I have bought for my lil cousin as he had finish his VCE so yeah, you could understand how embarrassing the situation is.

blown fuse?

Yeah I was certain it was that.. checked the ones under the dash and a few of them in the engine bay just didn't check the bigger black box shape fuses as I don't know much about them.. Really trying to avoid bothering the auto electrician if its just a simple matter.. hopefully I'll get a better idea from you guys

The black boxes are relays not fuses, but it would pay to swap a few over and test them that way. They should make a click sound (and you can feel it to) when they are switched on.

I would say fuse too but if you have checked them all then I'd be looking at the Illumination wire behind the head deck. To test you can disconnect it completely and see if that solves the issue.

Back on the fuse for a second. Are you aware that there might be two fuse boxes? Most newer cars have one in the engine bay and one next to the driver on the inside. Make sure you check the fuses in both locations.

Good luck with it!

You blew a fuse, illumination/dome underneath the dash. Before you go replacing it, make sure you've wired the earth up to the chassis, not to the loom (as I'm quite sure you had wired it up to illumination).

clip off the green wire in the harness you destroyed , fix the fuse you blew and NEVER touch a car again..

Yeah I earth the amp, not the head unit though. That doesn't make sense cause I also tried rewiring the old head unit back n change the gauge fuse yet it still the same. sad.gif

Hey mate,

Before I go clipping any green wires can you please be more specific where it may be and why?

He's talking about the original headunit loom, which you've wired your new headunit up to wrong. I wasn't talking about earthing the amp, I was talking about earthing the head unit - as you haven't done properly.
