Just wondering if anyone has any box trailer plans?
I've been surfing the net and can't find any FREE ones. I'm building a trailer as my senior project at school. If anyone could help, would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Is the project for designing something, or in the building of it?
Have you considered just measuring up an existing trailer? Think that would be almost as easy.

Have to design it then build it. Few people made em last year, but they threw their plans away dunno.gif . Its part of a certificate course, so we have to show so many competencies, like welding, planning etc.

Then shouldn't you be designing it yourself? Rather than copying someone's plans?

u can either do both as designing may not be apart of the competences and plus designing is a major part of the build hence why a planned trailer would be good , make a car trailer go 2 the drags go sus out everyones trailers get the parts u want from each and then ask someone if u can measure up there trailer

here is some help

http://www.support.transport.qld.gov.au/qt...LE/f3970_es.pdf

the form for getting it registered. has a bit of info.

weight wise i would recommend a 60 40 as in 60 on the front 40 on rear, helps trailer sit down and helps stay on the car etc.

longer the a arm ( from tow hitch to axle) makes it easier to reverse in straight lines and more control, but not as responsive

i have a 8.5x5.5 or 2.75m x 1.6m internal trailer plus draw bar and guards
i just sit under the 2.5 width requirement over all, and my length plus draw bar is good tows well and no worries.

depends on what use you will use, i have 3mm wall 3x2 box as my mains and that.

consider your wheels you will use as this will determ axle length, i also have a 1tonne caravan axle under mine for bigger is safer theory as i do carry the full legal weight no worries with it.

run cables in the box if possible less chance of catching in scrub,

steel floor is lighter than timber

all steel in mine is gal

hope this helps just general info from when i built mine.

blacky83 - I need something to go off. If I got a plan, I could just redesign it to the way I want it. Hence why I could use someone else's plan as a base.

Cheers for the info guys.

Is this assignment for Tech Studies? As I did that subject when I was at school too.

Are you building this box trailer from scratch?? or are you planning on getting a tub (say off a Hilux) and just making a chassis for it?

Here's a picture of what I mean:

Its for automotive engineering, 2 certificate course.

Plan on just building it from scratch, then selling it as i don't need a trailer.

Its not fucking hard to design a box trailer.

If you cant make up a set of plans for a basic box trailer then you need to re-do the course . What the teacher has said over the last month or so has not sunk into your thick skull.
You dont deserve the certificate you slack lazy shit

Just to set home this point i ask that know one help this guy its its obvious he need to learn it for him self
No ones gonna help you in the real world buddy. Your on your own when the boss comes in and says. " I want a car trailer built by 10am 2morow customer is picking it up at 10:30am" thumbsup.gif

maybe he wants to build more than just an average box trailer, and the tips here are pretty helpful, eg r31baboon had some good hints, which he could add to his design folio.

and its a course, so i assume theres a class, and hes competing with everyone else in the class, he needs something that would help differentiate him from the rest, thats how u get the marks.

theres nothing wrong with asking for help

No he's not not asking for help
He's asking for some one to do it for him.
Marks are based on the persons own design. not some one else's
Teachers dont look for somthing different.
They will give top marks for a basic trailer thats Fabricated right.
You could design somthing different but due to lack of experince in fabrication its gonna be done poorly. Tho if ya did somthing basic and in your experince range then your gonna do better in quality.
Baby steps not big leaps and bounds cos you aint gonna impress anyone

No Putting ya down here Buddy, Just trying to help ya out.
Iam dont course in automotive and have seen plenty aim high then crash and burn cos they cant do it.

biggrin.gif Hey RUM46
I have too looked for plans to build a trailer.
Not luck myself so I bought a CD on Ebay for $30.00
Also you might like to look at a web site showing Easy Trailer
They have plenty of close photos to look at.
These look very simple to build and you can put your own ideas in, like tie hooks frabricated into the design. Plastic mudguard like boat look sleek.
But as you are doing it as a course maybe not.
Check out ebay and buy the plans at $30 or go to a trailer place and get the measurements off a stock trailer. Get some photos for design. Simple designs Look at making assy easier than the others. Folding drawbars make easier storage and this might appeal to some. Anyone i thought I throw some stuff in for you. Good luck

Sup? How big you wanna go? Have you seen those new collapsible box trailers? I kid you not - like $750 for a trailer that'll do the same job as any other.

No, I don't sell for em or anything. I'm just impressed on what they designed cause it's so damn simple biggrin.gif
