About 2 months ago, out of no-where my ipad displayed what I am guessing it the mobile version of the site, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to view the regular site from it now?

Hi,

I'm afraid there isn't a way to force the desktop site to mobile / tablet devices, the hope is that since the tablet friendly version is fully functional that you'll still be able to do everything as normal on the tablet / mobile experience.

Is there something in particular that you're finding hard to use on the tablet?

That's about all it is these days, boost is dead. I think alot of members have bailed/stopped posting since all of the changes have been made. Was a great way to kill the site.

workaround, click feed, click on subject there, then active is enabled, fk me why the need for change, it is like supermarkets moving shit around for the "shopping experience".

The local IGA used to do it, I had a huge trolley full of stuff, but could not find a few things, was looking for staff to ask but they were chatting away, I was running out of time before work, just left the trolley full of stuff next to one of the older blokes and said "I will shop here again when they learn not to move shit around as busy people with money hate that shit, doleys and pensioners have all fn day", turns out it was the owner of the 17 stores.....

Yeah uh, the "shopping around experience" is certainly not what we're going for!

The simplistic menu that brings the classifieds, events and forums together is what I'm trying to achieve here, there was significant feedback regarding the changing top bar navigation between classifieds and cruising.

For those of you who don't bother with the classifieds, the chances are you find these changes a bit hellish.

But for those that use the classifieds (which is 90% of our audience), they should find it much easier to navigation to the events galleries, forums, and throughout the classifieds.

I'm going to clean up the forum category list today, bring Off Topic towards the top, ditch all the categories that haven't had activity for more than a month, etc, etc.

Like all other "forums", the activity is dying off in favour of Facebook / Google+ / Twitter... there isn't much we can do about that!

Ok, thanks for the clarification of that Mcleod, I too use the classified as well, for me it was just the simple, not loading of Active topics on the right, but after years of dealing with clusterfks, could figure out a workaround anyway.

FYI "Active Topics" should exist as a link underneath the main navigation when you're logged in.

90% of the audiance now use classified, good to see the boost community of car scene related people is now at a whooping 10%

The user base on boost only died when you decided to have ads and sponsors and make stupid changes. Like I said in another thread might as well shut the forum and just have boost-tree for selling stuff.

He wont even need to do that soon, it will just happen naturally. Every chance he makes less people seem to use the forum side of the site.

You created this section called feedback. Sorry for posting our thoughts on the site and its slow decline. Social media didn't kill boost, the boost facebook page has less activity than the forum does.

You created boost as a community and alot of people held it that way. Slowly it has been torn down and alot have left.
Regardsless of social media, you had a very strong user base that spent hours upon hours a day using boost. The changes made over the past 12 months to commercialise the site has seen almost all of these members leave.

If you don't look after and respect the opinions of those who use the forums most then yes they will go and yes your forum will die.

Not trying to come off as disrespectful because I have enjoyed this site over the years but its a little hard to deny the fact that every time you have made a change recently more people stop using the site. We can all see it. Yeah twitter or facebook is probably to blame as well but boost seems to be dying very fast in comparison to other forums. Boost used to have about 10x as many active member's and posts as heaps of the other smaller forums I frequent. Now those 'small' forums are somehow way more active than here? Yes they have slowed down but not to this degree.

Boost really started to die off once all the key member's were forced out / left during the big " clean up ". Before that It was great to see 100's of people online each day.

Now its pretty much boring, People don't like boring so they go else where.

This is still one of my favourite forums, has been for years and I'm pretty sure the decline started before mcleod ever changed anything. I like the new design anyways, looks cleaner and simpler to me dunno.gif

And that's the point right there. The changes are never to help the users they are to accommodate the paying customers. Which is fair enough, that's understandable. Problem is the users made this forum what it was - for good and bad. I just cant see how you will compete with the larger classifieds sites, the big boys like ebay, gumtree, carsales etc.

The thing is that you are wrong.

The site hasn't become more commercialized whatsoever, it's been running three banners per page for at least seven years.

There aren't any.

All of those commercial classifields posts. The people who pay $9.99 to sell their car. Google ads.

It was actually long before that, but I can appreciate why you would think that.

Every change I make to this site is based on statistics and feedback in an attempt to deliver the best possible site experience for the masses.

All car dealer and business listings are free, refer to the "Advertising" link at bottom of page. Even the Supercheap Auto store has been provided to them for free in an effort to bring relevant products to our audience to improve the overall classifieds experience ( http://www.boostcruising.com.au/supercheap-auto/ ).

Google ad's have been around for more than 7 years, it helps pay the bills for hosting this site, I've supported this site out of my own back pocket for many years.

The premium auto-bumping once per day for 30 day feature for $9.99 was introduced only two weeks ago. Those ads don't get artificially elevated in the listings or preferenced.

There's actually a depreferencing on business listings, if you don't search, and just "browse" a category, no business listings will be shown.

If you can explain why, I'm all ears... I've been fighting against it for two years now...

From where I'm standing, things have been pretty flat for the last two years, whilst most of the "changes" have actually helped improve things compared to the time before it...

Has anyone even noticed the new calendar? tongue.gif

(Actually I know plenty of people have noticed it because it's become a top five page the last 24 hours).

I want to save the forums... bad sadly it seems that my efforts have been in vain...

In hindsight, the true decline happened when Boost Classifieds and Boost Cruising split apart...

I actually did that because of user feedback about the "classifieds trolls" spreading their pointless crap into the rest of the forum... so I tried to respond to what people want and devoted Boost Cruising to being purely an automotive enthusiasts site rather than a classifieds site.

What actually happened, is the enthusiasts part of the site started to die off, and the classifieds continued to climb...
