ive always wondered why quad bikes can not be street legal. if they are setup the same as trail bikes, with indicators and headlights etc, why cant they be registered? does anyone have any info on this?

QUOTE(mick88 @ Aug 29 2007, 11:02 AM) i believe its because they are easily rolled on the road while travelling at such high speeds my guess anyway yeah i'd agree with this. unlike a trail bike which can corner at reasonable speeds, a quad cannot. especially on a surface like bitumen. to be honest, even off road they still seem a little unstable. |

I've riden both quads are trail bikes off road. Both are safe if you know how to operate them. In relation to the question at hand. I'd probably be inclined to think that they sit too low to the ground and aren't very visiable to other motorisits. Unlike trail bikes which are high stance. |

Quad bikes are not designed to be ridden on sealed surfaces. Trail bikes are designed for both |

ive ridden race quads, and at my sisters farm in tazzie i was on her husbands race quad on the road, the thing ither does a wheelie or fishies up the road in the dry... if they where to let them on the road they would need 2 be the size of the farm quads but faster, and u would need a speacial lience , i rekon it would be fun, i had the thing up to about 140 easy, so speed wouldnt be an issue with them i cant imagine if it rained lol |

They are legal in the uk they had a segment on 5th gear about it . tho you had to do a course before you were allowed on the road There are some chinese one that come out with spedo and lights. but they cant be regeistered. would be interesting to see some one regeister one, it could be regeistered under farm equipment. |

There are already Quads registered under conditional registration, it falls into the same class as ride on lawn mowers, backhoes, road rollers etc - They have to have registration (and insurance for liability) for use on public roads, but only in limited circumstances. So whilst your Quad may be allowed to drive alongside roads spreading fire ant bait, it doesn't mean you can ride to your mates place. ROCK ON R~R |

I'm talking street legal. As Rookie says about conditional licences. Its the same in the U.K. You can get a conditional licence. ie farmers etc. So that they can cross roads etc. I assure you though, you wont find any cruising down the streets legally. |
