Hey all,

Now my hq sedan build is nearing its end with a few minor things left to do I went out and bought my self a ute for the next project!

So here it is, A 72 hq ute ( Previously a PMG car ) with a 179 and 5 speed celica box. The interior isn't too bad but the dash has been re-done with VDO guages and a hj steering column, which i'll be removing and replacing with a hq monaro dash and steering column hopefully. It has close to no rust besides in the sills ( which someones already tried to patch ) but other then that theres no rust. It's been respray in some ugly purple colour and the original " Mercury Red" is visible all over the car and a sun roof has been installed. ugh.gif But yeah overall it's not that bad and should be done a lot sooner then it took me to rebuild the sedan.

The plans are as goes; White respray and take the hz front off and put a hq kingswood front back on, Tidy the interior and colour it all black with a monaro dash and some bucket seats. Lower it 2" in the rear ( fronts already been lowered) and dump it on some 5x7 pursuit rims with maybe some red walls. I may also be buying a pretty hot 186 that's meant to have been fairly worked and is running a 650 holly. ohmy.gif

Heres some photos of it looking pretty dogish.

you're a boss.

Edit:Why would anyone put that front on a HQ and you should totally put a Q Prem front on oopsie.gif

Lol @ prem front.

Single headlight front will look neat man. With the future plans i think you should make the engine bay as standard looking at possible, but have it go like a shower of sh!t (but it's still a Holden 6). Would track down a better power steering bracket too... ugh.gif Also, i'll sell you my wheels before you go putting commodore pursuit wheels onto it too, eve if you picked up some standard steelies etc..

Can't wait to see you dig into this!

I was thinking about this, Just sticker it up like the motor in the sedan but I also wouldn't mind dressing mine up like your's with the finned covers and what not. Still undecided.
I'm putting pursuits on or if I find a good set of convo et's cheap i'll slap those on.

P.s. I need you to order me wheel spacers and wheel nuts smile.gif

I saw that on ebay and can say I'm not really a fan, Maybe if it were a single light front and no visor haha. smile.gif

Won't need to change the hubs if I run spacers. Pursuit rims fit on the back fine, It's just the front.

commodore to hq stud pattern is not the same man,its not the offset that is the problem its the stud pattern

Not sure if serious. I think the stud pattern is slightly different but they still fit, There's a picture above to prove it. I can run pursuit rims on the rear and they fit, But on the front I can't because the it doesn't clear the hub. Easy way to solve this it just to die grind the centre of the rim and then it'll fit but then the rim hits the ball joints when running 15x7's

Definitly put me down as buying it, Especially that bonnet. How long until you'll have it all off and want it gone?

oh im serious man, even you just said that it is slightly different, that slight diifference is enough for the wheel to start breaking studs off

I know, If you read though I said i'll be using spacers. The spacers i'll be using are hq stud pattern and they bolt to the hub then there's another set of studs on the actual spacers that are commodore stud pattern in which the rim bolts to.

that works okay, just be sure to use the right spacers man (hub centric i think all the proper adapter spacers are?)
i hate going that way because it eats into the amount of dish you can have haha

Yeah, they'll be hub centric. I don't mind about the dish though as I'm not chasing anything other then standard sized dish. Well that's if I end up running pursuit rims. Convo et's will be a different story. haha

HAHA funk off bitch. Finish a car and then you can have your opinion!

But yeah, No hq steelies. Every kingswood has kingswood steelies and it's funking boring. I like utes with pursuit rims so that's the go. If you find and buy me some convo et's I'll gladly put them on and burn the pursuits.

eh spacers are safe...ish. Dad ran spacers on his stato for a few years before he had the rims he currently has and had no problems with them.

spacers from factory, lasted since 1978 through some ..rigorous... use.
so yeah on the street i think you'll be fine!

Haha that's cool!

I'm also curious, If spacers are illegal why are they used from factory?

And also if they're unsafe why are they used in racing?

dunno.gif

300hp ATW at the very max. But thats after 15k worth of work.

Mine will look something like that once done. Minus the 4k worth of webers....

Mine will hopefully resemble something like that but less tripples and more 4 barrel ( if I end up getting this 186 ).

sorry for the late reply, google chrome had a virus and wouldn't let me onto boost i have a single headlight front sitting here ready to go now from one of my sons tonners not sure how long before the rest will be ready cause im toying with the idea of a flip front so not sure if i want to use the other bonnet or just put a scoop over the hole in the one ive got and i will be using the other guards so have to do the swap before they will be available but i guess if i was to get offered the right price i could make a quick decision as its a daily driver and time is not my friend atm

So i've been jumping around the cars this weekend but what I did get done on the ute was;

Picked up a single headlight quee front off 2tonhq ( Thanks again ) and sanded,primed/puttied and guide coated the bonnet to go onto my sedan and then picked up ANOTHER bonnet today and bare metaled/ primed it to go onto this. and then quickly bolted it on and grabbed a photo. Bad photo know....

And during the week I stripped the interior and removed the hole front end and go rid of it.

Also bare metaled the cowl panel and found there's no rust or signs of repairs so thats a plus.

Paint stripped the bonnet:

After the first coat:

And after the second coat and then hitting it with a rapid strip disc:

And a coat of primer:

I'll need to smooth it out and lay a few more coats of primer on before its ready. The next move will probably be lifting the motor up, spraying the chassis and the engine then slapping it back in.

Haha thanks. All the front will be coming back off to attend to it's ruff bit's but yeah. Coming along good.

I really want to get the motor, Chassis and fire wall sprayed and out of the way then start on the body work but eh. Haha.
