You have a Zegna problem Herbert. Then again I do own a Zegna suit so I can see the justification!

Well if you own an Armani, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent or Tom Ford suit, technically you own a Zegna suit.

Both for $500 from a mate moving back to NZ.

The Bravia fits perfectly in the bedroom, and now to move and set up the other surround sound that was in the lounge in there. laugh.gif

And not technically a purchase but a few more spare tyres, and traffic cones from the wreckers for the bootcamp setup outside smile.gif

I meant to ask:
is that a current gen runout, or the one with the new light clusters? Also, I assume SA prices are as much cheaper as any other country? Can you give me a ball park of the percent of Aussie price you paid? Just so I can get angry again?

That's not a Spyder though?

Anyway, if that's indicative, then yeah, about half price.

Yeah I know, like I said, I don't know model names for the R8's but that was just meant to give a rough idea.

That's funking depressing. That is significantly less than I'm looking at paying for a V8 Vantage S.
Oh well, good job. If you can... Anyway, it's a gorgeous car. Well done.

Not the facelifted one, they're not out yet. was R1.8m -0 roughly $197k AUD for a 2012 R8 5.2 FSi V10. Can pick up 2008 R8 4.2 V8's there now for just under $100k AUD.

wolfman101
Post #3110

Yep, I've been looking at them.
That is DISGUSTINGLYYYY cheap. You did indeed pay about half price. The 5.2 is around 450k here new.

So jelly.

Just decided to do a bit of research into SA income.

General/Operations manager average income:

Australia - $90,000 / R815,245
South Africa - R311,299 / $34,353 AUD

So essentially, although it's just over half the price of what we'd pay, it would technically be more expensive there.

In a sense. It's the old argument.
Bear in mind that the cost of EVERYTHING will be far higher here than there though-it adds up. It's the same reason that Australia usually comes very high up on "livability" studies that prioritise GDP per capita (we have one of the best in the world) but yet in PPP terms we find we can't buy squat. When your meals, bills, rent, etc cost 1/3-1/2 what they do here, the income disparity doesn't wind up mattering all that much.

Pretty much, it's very much a value for money thing as well. Buying property and renting property, for what you get in terms of $ value... is a bit ridiculous when you compare. For example, a massive 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom 6 car garage tuscan style mansion on the beach front in Cape Town will cost you around R6Million, which works out under $660k AUD. I'm pretty sure everyone would agree that you wouldn't get that kind of property for that price here.

With regards to the Salary, positions are different here and there with regards to income. Main reason why so many Doctors from SA come here - they can earn more, then go figure, people go overseas for treatments because it's cheaper. Going to the movies in SA will cost you around R19 from memory - about $2. I shout all my mates and business colleagues a feast of a dinner at a really fine restaurant near the waterfront in Cape Town - last time I was back, we were 12 people, the bill came to R1989 - around $210, for 12 people, with starters, steaks, desserts and drinks.

Ever want to have an awesome holiday with your Aussie $, go see South Africa smile.gif maybe buy a car while you're at it tongue.gif

If you want to take it back you will have to make it a 12 month holiday though!
Anyway, that's pretty much what I was saying. It's the same story when comparing us to any other developed nation (except Singapore). Our income is comparatively high, but the cost of living is so high that it nullifies it and then some. When I was in Chicago last month I made some enquiries and found out that a 2 bedroom apartment in DOWNTOWN Chicago costs 260k. That's about HALF of what you would pay for the same thing in Brisbane...and Brisbane aint Chicago!
Not to mention that for the price of a second hand V8 2008 R8 in Australia, I could buy a NEW V10 one in a proper country, and a new GTR for going to work!
