Boostcruising Christmas Charity Cruise 2004, Gold Coast, QLD, Australia. By : Andrew Mcleod

On the 12th December 2004, the very first Boostcruising Christmas Charity Cruise and Car Show was held at the Broadwater Car Park on the Gold Coast, with all proceeds going towards the Gold Coast Children's Hospital. It was our first attempt at organizing such an event and all things considered, we did very well - with a total of just over $5,000 raised.

The week leading up to the event was filled with heavy rainfall which threatened the day from going ahead, but the weather gods held off the rain and brought on the summer heat instead. The day was all about car enthusiasts being able to put their hobbies and for some their livelihoods, to good use and riase money for charity.

The Gold Coast Mayor Ron Clarke was on hand to present 'The People's Choice' award and thanked all in attendance for their participation. Beth Dermoudy from the Gold Coast Hospital's Fund Raising Committee was also extremely grateful for the Hospital's early Christmas present.

The plan of attack was to meet at various different points throughout Brisbane, and then proceed for a leisurely Sunday cruise down to Surfers Paradise. At most meet points we had over one hundred cars arrive, and in total we registered 420 cars all of which made a donation of ten dollars to join the charity events car show competition containing twenty different categories, from Four Cylinder Turbo's to Best Paint Work and everything in between!

There were plenty of absolutely stunning cars in attendance that deservedly collected most of the trophies from the competition! There are often some great car's that arrive at BWCP on a Saturday night on a regular basis, however Boostcruising transformed the car park into a show case of cars for the day.

A sausage sizzle and cold drinks were sold throughout the day to further raise money for the cause, and was so popular that the cooking never stopped until the end of the day. In the heat of the sunshine states summer, I'm sure everyone was thankful for the endless supply of ice cold drinks on hand.

First and foremost, a big thank you goes out to the organizers of the event:

- Rick aka King of the Concrete Jungle and
- Leisa aka Mrs_GSR

Without those two people, the event would never have gone ahead, and I congratulate them on making the day a success.

Special thanks must also go out to the following commercial sponsors of raffle:

- Boostn Clothing ($1000 worth of clothing)
- Dulvari Prestige Detailing ($500 concourse detail)
- Pat's Car Care & Repairs ($175 injector clean)

and to the following sponsors of the trophies for the car show competition:

WASP Performance, Libby Armatige, Balco, ACE Fasteners, Cutting Edge Automotive, Pat's Car Care & Repairs, Wild Rose Information Services, Autobarn Tweed Heads, Brennan Business Solutions, Queensland Toll Ways, Nick aka s|rboost, Leisa aka Mrs_GSR and last by not least, Dulvari Prestige Detailing.

A further special thank you to the following outstanding individuals that made the day possible:

Neil Lovell (Golden Circle), Beth Dermoudy (Gold Coast Hospital), Ron Clarke (GCCC Mayor and his staff Annie Dorrens, Viki Ketchel, Sandy and Ray Stevenson), Big Aussie Kebab's at Robina, Michael Byron, Grant aka VS Style, Alana aka BITCN, Brad Lane, and all the cruise leaders and volunteers that helped throughout the day.

Although we didn't get the media attention that the event deserved, we have set a precedent for following years and proved that car enthusiasts (not only Motorbike Gangs!) can organize themselves and behave appropriately to pull their wallets out and help a good cause!

Overall, it was a great day, and we certainly plan to do it again next year with a handful of changes that we have since recognized could be done differently - however, everyone can agree that the day was indeed a great success and we'll all see each other again next year!
