sad.gif Well time for me to get a new exhaust setup for my ricer lancer wagon, but i'm unsure of the size I should go, I'm thinkin 2", maybe 2 1/4?

Plus what benefits with muffler between say a lukey or similiar or a canon?

Help would be appreciated. smile.gif

Well honestly if you are going to rice up your Lancer.

Buy the biggest cheapest exhaust that you can afford. Put on a nice shiny muffler.

They all sound the same.

Doof Doof .....

I wouldn't go any bigger that 2 1/4 cause it will just lag. Ring an exhaust shop and ask them, they are the specialists! smile.gif

Just recently got a 2" exhaust and it sounds mad. And its on a 1.4l engine, so if you've got something under 1.8l, don't go more than 2.5".

Hope this helps wink.gif

Seriously you wont notice the difference no matter what size you get.

New car exhaust systems already flow fairly good.

You wont get anymore power, nor anyless mind you.
It will sound faster, this is important.
ELLA
not always salad...

My accent made way more power than stock after its exhaust was changed from stock to what it has now...

improving the airflow of a car, be it intake or exhaust will improve your cars performance. you just have to do it right.

And if you improve the amount of air going in, you will need to be able to get more out wink.gif

i've seen a number of cars gain power with exhaust changes.

they had to be tuned to get the full benefits though.

Got it in one... I got around 20rwkw gain from an exhaust alone before the tune; to gain this you need to make sure the exhaust is matched to what you are running, and still be beneficial for any future mods planned.

Two pieces of advice:

1. Do plenty of research and talk to experts before making a decision. The car may end up sounding loud and running like an absolute bucket at the same time, or have the exhaust flow of a choked chicken.

2. Quality costs money, ie you get what you pay for.

We have a full difilipo 2 1/2 inch system. I was impressed with the cost and the extra rwk it gave us. I wanted an exhaust that wasnt going to sound loud, but had a nice tone and thats what i got. Very happy! smile.gif

biggrin.gif Well lot's of great advice, well I am after a small gain, well it's only a 2ltr with 92kw, whoopy, but i want a nice note too.

I had a Proton GTi and had a 2 1/4 inch cat back done, and man talk about lag, seemed alot slower than standard, sounded great, and looked awesome, but phew slowed me down some.

Thanks guys, I'll see how I go. smile.gif
(mr2)
if you get to big an exhaust you will loose power because you will have no back pressure, unless you have a turbo
Salad Fingers
That's wrong mr2.
If I didn't have to leave for work i'd explain why aswell.

but basically anything after the tuned section of the exhaust doesn't make fuck all difference to power.
Unless your car has totally poxy headers, like some of them very long, some very short. That could cause some werid problems. Thats not really much of an issue with post 1990(even 80's..) cars though.

Just make sure it doesnt rob you of performance.

Dont bother the performance gain you get for the money you spend wouldnt be worth it. Just put a canon on the back if you want a change in sound. If your not going to track days for racing or going to drag race it whats the point, its just another annoying fart noise that pisses people of so you can think your going fast. Where as if say you were going to supercharge it or run a 50shot of nitrous through it for racing then pay for a good exhaust. Other wise if your going to do it anyway go to see andy at TPL or Muff city they arent too bad.
