So many questions that are asked from Queenslanders falls into this document. My suggestion is read it before asking questions on what is legal and what isn't.

Excellent read thanks for putting it up. The way they measure bonnet scoops to be legal or illegal is very interesting.

This guide is also readily available at any license centres, and for any of those lucky enough to be pulled over by the same cop, 4 times in one day.

Just sot hat everyone knows.. this guide states on it that it CANNOT be used as a point of law.. this means that if you are defected then you CANNOT refer to the modification guide if you take it to court... saying "but the mod guide says i can do it" DOESNT stand a chance.. the mod guide is good for a guide and in most parts it is RIGHT... but for more specific measurements, rules or if you are after a legal side to back you up then go to:
http://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/LEGISLTN...999/99SL213.pdfHope it helps people out and makes modifying a bit easier.

Is this guide still in effect?

I've heard from other forums and around the internet that carbon fiber bonnets are illegal due to their inability to 'crumple' during a severe collision. What's up with this? How come I still see alot of people driving around the streets of Sydney with carbon fiber bonnets.

cause they are diving illegaly.
100 people a day get caught speeding on the pacific highway. Does that make it legal?

I can see that. I guess it's worth the risk since it makes your car look so damn good.

No problem.
For further specifics on modification guidelines and requirements, I also suggest visiting the NCOP (National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Construction & Modification) website and looking at the appropriate PDFs. These are effectively what must be met to pass an inspection for a modification plate - tells you exactly what doesn't need a plate, what does and what you need to ensure is compliant.
Very useful

Does anyone know if these laws will change with the new licencing system after june 30?
I had a mate get told that all engine conversions would be a no-no by a mechanic... I think he was spinng bull poo but if anyone could clear it up?
I had a look at the QLD transport website to see if I could find any information reguarding new laws and found nothing...

Rumours, no confirmation by QT yet.
You'll have to wait and see. As far as I've heard it's just more stringent policies.

So you can do an Engine Conversion Still but with added guidelines?
I'd just like to know as I am in the middle of a slow engine conversion and I need to know if I need to pull my finger out or not... Lol...

I can't tell you that.
No one has released anything, everything that's been passed around is based on hearsay from someone working for the Government. They should be releasing something soon, otherwise they'll have some very angry people if they don't do it prior to the introduction.

The only changes that we've heard are those about Impounding vehicles for repeat offenders, including defectable vehicles.

Hay guys i got pulled over the other night because my number plates are bent on the edges, i have a r32 gtst, so the plates have to be bent a lil to fit in the narrow number plate section. the officer says that it cnt be seen on a 45 degree angle,i think it can be, but, i am the first australian owner of the car so when i went to pick it up from the car yard it had come back from getting its road worthy and the plates were on and bent, i asked if it was illegal to have them that way because i had herd it was but they guy just srugged it off and said "it just came from a roadworthy didnt it". i dnt want to have to make my car look dicky and bring the plates out so that they are straight so im just wondering if anyone knows who i would go to to find out the actual law about it and why the car yard is allowed to sell me somthing that is illegal....
Thanks heaps Gerard

No they shouldn't have, but there's not much you can do to prove it.
It is correct that the numberplates cannot be bent or cut and must be visible from a 45 degree angle. There's two solutions, you can either buy some personalised plates in the USA style, which will fit happily, or the other option is to cut some small slots in the rear bar either side of the numberplate, so the plates slide through whilst still sitting flat.
