I was having a look at some incar DVD packages. I saw some cheap all in one units for around $1000 but there was the AVH - P6650 DVD for $1899. I probably wasn't looking at spending this much. Is this a good deal or are there other recommendations to brand etc. Any advice is appreciated as well as places to get a good deal.

Hi,

As far as cheaper options go, if you have a local JB HiFi, that's a very good place to start. Strathfield and Autobarn can be OK if you can haggle on price.

I know it's an old saying, but when it comes to Car AV, you truly do get what you pay for. You will find that on the cheaper units, they may not support MP3 cd's, the screens are smaller and of a lower resolution, less features, no touchscreen function, etc.

Definately go for an all in one unit though, and look for things like touchscreen, MP3 playability, how large the screen is and how crisp it appears, and search for other options that you would want to find in an everyday head unit as well, such as sub-woofer outputs, controls, etc.

i got my DVD HU for $200, it played mp3's, dvd, dvd-r and cd-r.
Then i got a 8" flat screen for $250 and done a little custom mount so it sat on my dash above the hu.

It worked perfectly, not one problem. And that was 8 or so months ago, now the prices are even cheaper.

The expensive models like that P6650 DVD are only 6.5" monitors. The only thing good about them is the touch screen operation and the in-dash motorised feature. But do you wanna pay all that money just for that? Up to you, but i wouldn't.

I got it because it has the input on the front so i could easily hook up a ps2 whenever i wanted.

And the monitor i had was an 8" oslon shipped from hong kong.
