Nah i don't believe he has ever worked with aluminium. He's real handy with mig/oxy welding though.
a billet aluminium grill would be sick though!

Let me know how yu go with polishing up the boss, i have had very little luck with trying to mirror polish mild steel

yeh me neither so i thought it was stainless as it already has a mirror finish in places though jake insists its mild. perhaps in the way the pipe was made or the grain direction has a bearing on its shinieness.

proper 316 s/s isnt magnetice that a way to tell.

mild steel goes grey and smooth rather then shiney polished.

i work with stainless steel every day being a welder

i work with aluminium and mildsteel also.

for a grill aluminuim sheet would be the go and cut out or fold what eva shape you want. doesnt polish as good as stainless tho. as aluminium goes dull and scratches easily after a while.

autosol is the best to buff it up with after you a smooth scrtach free surface

yeah i realise that mild steel goes dull but this piece is still shiney(mirror finish), would the fact that it was galvanised have anything to do with it?
ps you got cheap access to 2 inch stainless piping and 3 - 2 inch reducers ?

maybe paint it with some of that chrome in a can stuff ?

Got the new exhaust put on yesterday, i went against my original thoughts and ended up with a cannon, sounds good, looks nice, its a bit loud tho! resonator sits pretty low and scrapes on everything.... noticeable increase in power and besides the loudness is much nicer to drive.

i could get them a lil cheaper. the best place to go for quilty and most of the time cheaper stainless steel supplies is prochem . they are hobarts stainless steel specialist. opp dazzlers car wash. near the entrance. they are good guys and look after you with prices.

i went there when i made my s/s madrel bend exhaust and my inercooler piping. and thats where i will be going for my supplies when i make my turbo manifold. and dump pipe and new intercooler pipes for my rolla.

you can also buy the same suff at nubco.

also it might be bright mild steel. thats y it seems shiney.

in theory u should have been the 1st to blow one.
i've never heard of anybody blowing one on a 1g where as u are the only person with a 7m i know that hasn't blown one.

dude wat are u going on about ?!?!?!?! do u think 7M's will just blow out headgaskets everytime u start them ? the only fault with the 7M is the fact the torque setting on the head was incorrect, the head has been corrected

I know back in the day ppl had no idea that they weren't set up right.
so they would just leave them as they were and they would blow HGs all the time.

the HG was replaced about 15,000ks ago and hte head was rebuilt + correct torque

So u think that every 1G getting around has the factory head gasket in it? no one has blown one. it doesnt just take incorrect torque settings to blow a head gasket.

YIEW, that boss kit is wicked that i made, although that was my 5th attempt im pretty sure its just crappy mild steel piping, looked like street sighn pole, here is actualy about 5 different pieces of piping in the boss kit and a crank load of welds so it will be strong, and Pat did a good job of shining it, i might see if he is keen to shine my knob.
nah i havnt worked with aluminium and dont want to and got too much stuff i have to make for my engine conversion to make stuff for any one
i have already made intercooler piping for it, and an accelirator cable bracket, and i need to make a pod filter adaptor and exhaust for it still.
Also i have a complete RB30 for sale with power steering rack, ECU and loom, im after $300 for it if anyone is keen, and also another RB30 that im wrecking, so if you need RB30 parts just ask me cause i prolly have them
