Dammit where is Krawler already?
the red krawler
Those pictures of TUN35 are exactly what I'm talking about in regards to the bluriness in night mode.... Nice pics, but the edges are all blurry and "washed" looking. Hard to explain :S

I'd never buy a camera second hand, who knows how the original owner treated it. Guy who works here bought a ~3k camera (for closer to 1k being second hand) off ebay (woo...) and when it arrived it looked exactly like the photos etc... except for the hairline crack in the inside lens. Invisible from exterior, but every photo came out blurred a bit. Ended up going to a camera shop to be repaired and the lens portion cost over 1k alone. Oops. Not something you could pick cause on the LCD screen the pics looked orright (apparently), but once they hit the computer it was VERY obvious.

Spend the bucks dude, grab the better camera new! Or if you cant afford it, the slightly less good camera but buy it new. I just dont trust people (or couriers) enough to buy delicate / breakable shit off.

Point taken about the 'unknown condition' of the 2nd hand camera. As for the 'washiness' in TUN35's pics, it didn't seem to bad to me? There is no way I am buying the HP945 new... considering I was originally looking at not much more than $400. $529 I can cope with... possibly.

If I got the S5500, and was having heaps of trouble with the settings... would you be interested in having a play around with it one cruise/night/whatever and trying to sort it out a little?
TUN35
Sir Holden, basically take a look towards light sources in my pics and you can see how they wash out. They should be much more refined.

Basically in regards to settings with your camera it all comes down to you becoming comfortable to play around. I know when i first got mine i did nothing but have it on auto or a preset mode. After a bit of playing you get to know what works in different situations. smile.gif Good luck mine tongue.gif

You can always buy mine 2nd hand as i'm in the market for something more for night shots biggrin.gif

Oh, that. I thought that was kinda a 'natural' thing that happened in 90% of night photos?

depends on exposure and a lot of things. Would be so much easier showing you direct comparison shots from different cameras for you to see.

have a look at some of the pics on different camera's. He uses the same subject in each so u can compare. Then you can see what that old man Krawler is on about!
Sir Holden
Purchased the s5500 tonight, $529 from OfficeWorks, and got a 256MB XDcard to go with it. Gotta look for case and whatever sometime soon.

I'll no doubt be asking for help within a few days, so expect to hear from me tongue.gif

Congrats dude, you wont regret it. smile.gif
Sir Holden
Sure hope not.

Yes, I think it is a good idea that we compare.

We should also compare cameras tongue.gif Nah seriously though, I was gonna ask if you wanted to have a play around with it (still talking about the camera wink.gif ) at the dinner, see if you can't get a few of the settings working fine. I was reading the manual on the train this morning on the way to uni, and I reckon my brain would've been doing a few of these run.gif huh.gif blink.gif

Buggered if I know what I'm doing, I just fiddled until I figured out what they did tongue.gif I dont even know what the hell the correct terminology is for most of the stuff.

I've seen the S3000 and it felt so much different to my S5000. If the difference between these two is anything to go by with regards to the difference between 5500 and 3500, definitely go the 5500!

I'd like to bring something along to the boost dinner but unfortunately, I can't come! tongue.gif you all missed out..

By the way, I bought my camera because it looked more "pro" than one of those little dinky silver jobs that you see kickin around. Black >>> Silver. I also didn't want a camera the size of a credit card. My camera looks quality, hehe.

"So then I just set the little thingy to 2.0, adjust this setting whatever it is to 5.3, play with this button for a while, and there you have it, a first-class photo" tongue.gif

Sounds aight. Perhaps you can try and make some sense of my new beast, seeing as Krawler will probably be too busy with the beer-battered chips anyway.
SkiDMaN
