Japanese car giant Honda is set to become a Formula One team owner with BAR, BBC Sport has learned. Honda has supplied engines to BAR for four years but wants to increase its commitment to winning in F1.
A deal is said to be agreed, but sources differ on whether Honda will buy BAR outright or become a co-owner with a 40% shareholding. BAR team principal David Richards is expected to move on, with managing director Nick Fry taking the reins.
The team would continue to be based in Brackley in Oxforshire, with Jenson Button and Takuma Sato as the drivers.
It will be the first time Honda has been an F1 team owner since 1968, despite dominating the sport as an engine supplier with Williams and McLaren in the 1980s and early 1990s, and returning with BAR in 2000.

Fantastic news, thanks for the info
And I also hear that Honda will be the first to break the 1000hp barrier since the days of turbo F1 engines

As I said about the red bull takeover of Jaguar
Hopefully with a few big corporations getting involved they will be able to pump some money into R&D and catch up to the red cars.

As I said, about the Red Bull buyout of Jaguar.
It will be good to see some large corporations try and develop and compete with the front runners. The competition needs to be levelled out a bit. Im italian hence i love to see the red cars win..... however im getting sick of watching the first 3 laps, seeing shumacer pull a 3 lap lead on the guy in second and then turning it off coz i already know who has one before halfway through the race.
Hopefully they have the money like red bull to pump into some R&D to catch up or soemthing... anywho in short... good show

good to see some shake up in F1, went abit stale for a while, but a couple of team changes and driver moves should make things a little more interesting

I too, hope it will be a closer competition this year. But that get said at the start of every year.
The Red team is on such a good thing at the moment and they have got it all sussed. I think it will take a tremendous effort to beat them this year, or some serious bad luck on there part. Their rien will continue till Schuey retires. I wanna see Webber win it too, but the expectations may be too high.
Watchout for Renualt this year as they have a new car and had a dissapointing season (for their standard).
Briscoe will get a drive before the end of the season.
Someone should tell Manardi too call it a day. Who is Paul Stoddard kidding? Himself I recon!
Small budgets and F1 don't go together.
Another season of late nights.
Time for another PIMMS.
