Yes...there is one, actually I thought there were 2. A 308 and the one you saw was probably the 328.
roar_snuts
i swear it was a newer model then that, the rear looked more like a F430 then 308 or 328

JET_RB25
Spotted it today. In fact we overtook it in the Loud Micra. He just could not resist himself to drop it back and give it shit to get away from the loudness of the Micra. Sounded good but i would say there are a hell of alot nicer cars and faster out around in town. It looks very plastic and lego like.

Nah, you can't say that. I had the laundry bath and bedrooms done for SFA. And a top notch job too. 40 years of experience does that I guess. Got him from a job he did on a mates shopping centre. Greeks rule for tiling.

Congrats, you brought into Ferrari's Myth/legend.

Build quality and Italians are two opposing ideas. Ask any poor sucker that owns an Alfa Romeo or a Moto-Guzzi. Ferrari's build quality has come light years in the past ten years or so, prior to that it was pretty rough. I know a guy in Sydney who has the rather enviable hobby of rebuilding old Ferrari's. Last time I spoke to him he owned a 308, a Dino and something older I've never heard of. Apparently it wasn't uncommon to find parts glued to a car rather than screws or bolts. All old Enzo wanted was your money, once he had that he didn't care, you had to then justify the build quality to your friends. Not many people will admit to making a half a million dollar mistake, hence the legend grew. Don't believe it, read the story of how Mr Lamboghini came to make cars as well as tractors...

The build quality is now reasonable, maybe on par with your average Falc-adore. Things will break, leak, etc but not all at once, just on a regular basis. I've met a few Ferrari factory certified mechanics and know one locally that will testify to reliability or lack of. As an example, your average Toyota 100,000 Km service will be done to a Ferari every 10,000 km and will take a day and a half to complete. Complete engine and gearbox rebuilds are common every 50,000 km or so. Although if you can generally afford to buy a new Ferrari, you can afford to fix it.

IMHO Beautiful cars, best admired in someone else's driveway.

or rented......

Thanks for the insight...

Mr Mopar
wow.. now theres a thought.. Given an average, say camry, rental is the fastest thing on the planet in reverse and a better 4wd than an ASLAV... Image how good a Ferrari rental would be!!!!

True, build quality sucks. The guy I bought my car off has two testarossas (one for parts I guess smile.gif ) and while the flat 12's are fucking horn, the interior and body suck ass. There nothing quality about them. But they are bred for performance. Besides, they look better than anything else on the road, I mean since when did man/woman stop paying to look good? Versace, gucci, crazy lucci.

I dunno man, 15 F1 drivers championships, 16 F1 Manufacturers championships says a bit about what they are built like.

As for Enzo, had he only been after your dollars, he would never have renegged on selling ferarri to ford in 1963.

I also note that the owner of two testarossas also owns a land rover. Considering owning a land rover means 100% of your garage time dedicated to keeping it on the road, the ferarris cant be all bad. Oh, and he takes them to phillip island for lots of round roundy work, as least they have a good life.
Pure-SX
true point about Land Rover, poor poor owners, while I was working at Darwin Mitsi/Suz/Landrover, had the same guy bring in his brand new land rover vogue(think it was a vogue)

Transmissions to interior bits lol

There are ferrari race cars and ferrari road cars. The road cars were there to pay for Enzo's race cars.To quote from a brief history of the Ferrari company -
"Part of the reason for the shoddiness of the Ferrari street cars was simply that Enzo didn't give a toss about his customers. He regarded his clients as rich fools who were there to finance his motor racing efforts and thereforth the glory of (Enzo) Ferrari's name."

The reason Enzo refused to sell to Ford in 1963 was that they refused to allow him to run his motor sport team or racing department. Fiat on the other hand did when Ferrari sold to them for less than the $20 million that Ford offered in 1969. If you want some interesting homework, go and look at how many races Ferrari has won over the past 50 years and how many they entered. It'll give you an appreciation for how good the Ferrari PR machine is. It was once estimated that at least 30% of race goers at F1 events were thee only to see Ferrari's.

Funny that a Ferrari should be compared to a camry rental car. It was a joint deal between Fiat and Toyota in 1991 that saw the Ferrari company re-invent it's self with the help of a couple of design/production guys from Toyota and a lawyer from Fiat. Maybe thats why rental Camry's go like stink?? smile.gif

As for mentioning Landrovers, I can't figure that one out. I know many, many landrover owners and despite the fact they spend a fortune just keeping them on the road, when forced to upgrade they always seem to go and buy another one. I figure that they either attract people with a mental illness or sadists who like nothing better than the financial and emotional pain of keeping a car based tractor on the road.

It's always nice to know that there are enough people out there with ridiculous amounts of money to be able to live out the dreams of the rest of us mere mortals, and drive super cars the way we wish we could drive them. It's always interesting to get to meet someone who actually owns "dream cars" and find out what there really like. I once spoke to a visiting British IT guy who not only owned but used at track days a genuine Mc Claren F1. He said going wasn't a problem, it was stopping. once the brakes were hot, he claimed to use "Jesus as a brake marker".

Any one see the segement on Top Gear when James May got to finally to drive his boy hood dream car, a Lamborghini Countach?

sp33d
I see your point(s), in fact I saw them in the previous post! But the guy using Jesus as a brake marker, HA! For me, the testarossa was my childhood dream car. Problem with boyhood dreamcars is you dont know squat about cars anyway to make any sort of sense of seeing/driving one in the flesh. I think 'young adulthood' dream cars, at least then you think you know every fucking thing about cars women and money, and are well on your way to getting more than one of them at that age smile.gif

The thing with Enzo, is (was) you have one mans dream leading the show. (No, not one man) That dream kept scuderia on the path to where it is today. Like the F40 smile.gif

Other manufacturers, you have shareholders. Millions of them. And a board of directors made up of, whoa, directors of companies that coincidentally have thier fingers in raw materials, labour, finance and design pies. Which gave us 99% falcons and 1% GT40. Or 99% commodores and 1% ZR1 corvettes.

Dream a little biggrin.gif
