I have got this quote for a new system, as my motherboard shat itself. I'm keeping the case, DVD burners and 3.5" FDD. The HDD's are being turned into external drives.

This is the quote, at full retail (just phoned up and asked for a system).

1 x VANTEC ION2 520W ULTRA QUIET PSU UNIT $90.00
1 x ASUS P5KPL-AM MAINBOARD INTEL G31 SKT775 mATX UNIT $100.00
1 x INTEL PENTIUM DUAL CORE E5300 CPU LGA775, 2.6GHZ, 800MHZ UNIT FSB, 1M L2 $108.00
2 x 2GB 800MHZ DDR2 DESKTOP RAM - LIFETIME WARRANTY UNIT $70.00ea $140.00
1 x GIGABYTE ATI HD4350 PCI-E 512mb (HIS, etc) UNIT $70.00

I'll assemble that myself and save $50. $508 total.

Keeping in mind this is only for internet, music, DVD's for kids and limited game use (LFS, NFS etc).

I can't spend much more than that quote, can assemble stuff myself so if it gets posted from the mainland, and it's cheap, I'll do it!

on a tight budget, thats pretty much all you'll get, BUT, at least go AMD socket AM2+ or AM3. not that LGA775 shit.

Well, the last sytem lasted over 5 years with only one RAM upgrade, if that is any indication!!

Can you reccomend a system for around the $500 mark with MB, CPU, PSU, RAM (min 2gb, prefer 4gb) and a HDD (prefer 1tb, but 500gb will do to keep costs down).

I can assemble at home too, so posted to me if fine (7018).
