Hey All,
Well my mate is a bit of a tool..He bought a new head unit today and decided to put it in himself without knowing what he was doing..
Now he did a pretty dodgy job and just twisted the wires together and didnt tape them or anything. He bought it around to show me and when i pulled it out to have a look (it wasnt even screwed in..was just sitting loose in the dash) i assume the live power wires touched on something and it shat itself..
Checked both the head unit fuse and the audio fuse in his car and found only the audio one to be blown.
Replaced the blown fuse and it now powers up and plays etc but it does not produce any sound.
I wired it into my car and ran it through my RCA's (I have an external 4 channel amp) and it plays 100% through the RCA's...
Sooo basically i am assuming he has blown his built in amp???? Just wanting to verify if it could possibly be anything else?
If this is the case can it be repaired cheaply or is it pretty much a case of turf it and get a new one? (keep in mind it only cost him $200)

Cheers,
Caelum

haha yeah only thing is its only got a single pair of pre outs so i guess he'll either have to buy a 2 channel amp and run front speakers off one channel and rear form another channel or fork out for a new head unit..

the onboard amp is blown or also known as the IC chip

it blows when the speakers positive and negative wires touch
Audio Express
and being JVC - its taken the RCA side with it..
