im looking to put a naked dsl line in at home..
recently moved into a new place and there is no phone connected..
rang up tpg and they told me i need a phone line active to have naked dsl
(which makes no sense to me)
i looked at telstra line rental cheapest being 20.95 home line basic.
i rang the dude up and he said that the phone line cant support adsl..
my question is that it wouldnt matter would it? if u were cutting it off anyway
just seems stupid waste of extra money.. 60 bucks to connect something thats
going to be disconnected..
suggestions?

You still require a physical line (ie, bit of copper) to run from the street to your house. In that sense you do require the phone line connected. It's required to be active in the sense that it needs to be plugged in down at the exchange (ie. if it's brand new or reallllly old they may have removed the other end connection).

After that, naked DSL requires no phone plan. You can't plug a phone in and make calls etc just use it for the broadband.

If theres a physical line in the house it shouldnt be a problem bud. Unless its some sort of old type of line that cant be used for adsl.

I had naked ADSL and no active line. (You do not need that $20 plan from telstra). If you are going to do that you may as well go ADSL2+ with a connected line. Thats really the best value for money. Pay the $20 a month and get on tpgs $40 / 80gig plan.

You will get far more downloads and it will still be far cheaper in the long run for naked dsl.

As a warning to you look out and read the fine print. Most of the Naked ADSL plans - upload and download count to your bandwidth not just download!

yaeh i spoke to telstra and he said the 20 line rental wont cope with adsl2 speeds
but i dont see how it matters if ur gonna disconnect anyway

Both times we've got naked adsl2+ connected we've needed to have an active phone line connected, as in actually call up telstra/aapt to come out and connect it up before Internode could go any further.

Sooo... hows AAPT treating you anyway Bozza? biggrin.gif

I wish I could get ADSL 2+ damnit.

My exchange is enabled but my DA isn't. I could go drive through it so they can build another one!

rang telstra and spoke to another guy and he said that we were able to have adsl 2 on that line
so i got it hooked up..
have to have it for 3 months before disconnecting..

Thats why you go AAPT since there's no minimum sign up, oh well.
scotty_222
how much was the line rental at aapt?

i think i mite keep it now..
149.95 set up fee for nake dsl
didnt like that at all
BozzA
I cant remember how much AAPT were. You can normally get free set up if you sign up for a longer contract with your ISP, ie 24 months instead of 12 months.
scotty_222
yeah only leased our place for 12 months..
so seems silly to go 24 months
