Well my body has started telling me I'm going to become a fat unfit c***

I have wanted to join a gym for a long time, and well now i think its time, But I really have no idea to start, and reading thru some of the thread on here you gym guys seems damn helpfull...... if your attitude is right wink.gif

So a little backgound on me

Im tiny lol

169cm and 65kg 26yo male.

My size 82 work pants need to be unbuttoned to drive the hour home.

My fitness is well fucked, Im finding now that 2 hours on my kitesurfing gear is killing me the next day, just pumping up my kite and walking down with my gear 400m make me puff lol I used to be fit back before I learnt to drive that was 10 years ago

My diet was quiet bad early 2003ish, but dating a chef showed me how to cook and its much better than it used to be, but I do suffer from some IBS

So my goals is really to get my fitness back and start building some better tone in the body.

the only stuff i do at the moment is walk alot at work part of my job and play the drums alot, so I dont have much fat on my legs or arms I do alot of "sets" onmy drum kit to build up dexterity and speed.

But some nice advice on where to start would be awesome as it all seems so daunting!

And some info from anyone around the wollongong area on gyms around as, been thinking of joining beaton park gym nice and close to my joint.

Cheers Boosters

You need cardio. Get your fitness level up to where you can do around 30 minutes of moderate cardio without being puffed or getting a stitch. Running is good, or exercise bike if you get sore knees or can't be fucked running biggrin.gif

If you want to gain weight, gain it lean. Cut out sugary drinks, fast food and booze. Or at least cut back. Lean meats and vegies are your friend. Eat as much as you can. The more you eat, the better your metabolism works. Also, intake plenty of water ( 2-4 litres a day ).

That's the very basics in my opinion.

for cadio, if you want it to be fun and ur into footy, get another mate who is keen to go out with you and kick the footy around, play a game of 1 on 1 or so. thats what i do for my cardio (not that i need it) but its fun and could be a good starting point.

Im a firm believer in you can't polish a turd. (sorry about relating you to a turd tongue.gif) but yeah, your main focus defiantly needs to be on cardio as opposed to weights. Don't cut weights out completely because you will get better results incorporating weights into your workout as well as cardio, but i'd aim for only one or two days out of a 5 day work out spent on weights, the rest cardio.

Thanks for the replys guys, Soon as im feeling better im going down to that gym.

Weekend I know what you mean.

From reading about the place I feel I should somewhat copy Riggaz and start with a month or two of just cardio and work it as uch as possible around my shift work roster, so that mean one week ill have 1 night off and the other week 2 nights off.

Any other guys work extended hours?

I do 11h shifts and commute 65km from home to work 3am alarms on days and get home at 2am from arvos.

I was thinking not doing a workout when I have worked a day shift and got another day shift the next day, cause im generally in bed by 8 to 9 pm

You need to raise your basic metabolic rate (BMR)

This is done by increasing the ammount of muscle you have

All exercise is catabolic, but some has an anabolic affect (heavy weights)

Cardio is catabolic with zero anabolic affect

Overtime you will lose plenty of muscle tissue along with fat

Over time you will get even fatter because you now have less muscle

Lift weights to get strong

Eat well to get lean

The 2 are incredibly seperated

Plenty of skinny people that do no exercise

Plenty of fat people who run, jog, swim, lift

Eat what nature provides, lift progressively heavier weight

Be consistent

the only thing between what you look like and what you want to look like is you.

Hope this helps

Cheers, I've kinda been doing it for 30 years lol

I have my own strength and conditioning facility in Melbourne

I'm sure you know me lol

Pretty sure I've helped you

That saying in your sig is one of my quotes, glad you like it big fella.

Whats this forum like? Is it better than cocklovers, I dont go there anymore.
Silly Silvia
HAHAHA I should have known it was you! I was actually blown away when I read it thinking there are other people out there that make sense, kinda bit of an anticlimax now.. haha

And yes I know you, and I'm pretty sure your the one who has given me the best advice in regards to training and nutrition.

This forum is very bodybuilding based, there are one or two people that are knowledgeable in that aspect of lifting. Check out the training journal section to get an idea.

P.S. Love the nickname.

I think I may just read and not post too much advice on this one, a more passive role

Well I must say this confused the hell out of me the first time I read it.

After a few hours of reading and searching the net filtering lots of information its has become alot clearer to me now, and is a very very good bit of advice.

Ill tell you what its hard to find a place where things are exlaned simple for a n00b but so far this one has been the best to brake things down to and easy to understand level

http://www.buildingmuscleworldwide.com

Got the link from another thread in this forum

And thanks guys for being patient and helpfull!

I think its going to take a few weeks to get my head around all this sort of stuff, learn how to use a gym correctly and get my diet in check and working well around my roster.
