Hey guys

I just noticed there is a ticking noise coming from the engine when i start up my car (vt commodore).

It goes after ive driven the car for a bit and its warmed up,

any one got any ideas on what it is?

Cheers

Lack of oil???

most likely lifters of piston slap. how mny kms?

i checked oil and it looked fine.

done about 170xxx
MrMitsu
So the noise goes when its warmed up? I'd be looking more towards lifters with 170k on the clock.

Yeah it goes when its warmed up.
if it is the lifters is that a big job or?

vote 1 for a dicky lifter, unusual for a como tho,

depends, if it's just noisy lifters u could replace or reshim them...
piston slap and it'd need a rebuild...
go to tas engine reco, i got a uote from them for free and they diagnosed it for me when my cressida had a spun big end, just by listening, good blokes thumbsup.gif

have u left any nuts or bolts in the intake recently? tongue.gif

I had to replace lifters in the Magna and it was piss easy, wouldnt be any harder in a Commodore.

not really unusual get a lifter tool from super cheap, tappet cover gaskets and some neew oil. soak the new lifters in oil first. oil buy some lifter tune up shit and try it

Cars dont run out of oil, ppl let them run out of oil...
either way its a expensive excercise after it happens
pipster11
useing engine oil flush (one bottle or two if its ticking) mixed into 4-5 litres of the cheapest oil you can buy fixes it

my stepdad's vs commy was sounding a bit rough and was gummy under the rocker covers, did that then put new oil in after and it was happy as

did the same for the 31 and it worked a treat (31's and vl's suffer from really back tappet ticking)

How wasn't it your fault?..Every thought about fixing the leak?..See how you can prevent these things from happening but your to stupid to do so.
KE38
fuck off didnt ask u baz, ot
harolto
Lol, mate had an old laser that leaked a crap load of oil, put two tubes of silicone in the rocker cover while it was running (through the oil fill hole) fixed the leaks and ran like a dream biggrin.gif tongue.gif

haha nice

I'll assume its a V6? If so i'd bet it would be lifters, both the buick and ecotec 6 pretty much always have noisy lifters, dunno who said it was unusual for a commo lol, i dont think i've ever heard one without that ticking noise.

and yea u did say that tongue.gif
1barwagon
Could also be a leaking/cracked exhaust manifold that closes up when hot. not usually an issue with the later models (vs on) but may still be worth checking out.
