The below quote is off the Powercruise website, so best way to show GUP the support is still here in Darwin is on here as he has been sent the link.
So leave the BS at the door and just show your support here so we may get powercruise back in 2010 ! Get the word around to show support on here for GUP to see. Can't do any harm?
Latest News 24th August 2009
Well the big news is there is no news as yet. The decision to bring Powercruise back to Darwin hasn't been made either way as yet because i am about to contact all of the loyal sponsors and supporters we have had over the years in Darwin to see if they all want to go again so it's up to these guys and girls to let me know their thoughts. The people at Hidden Valley Raceway have indicated their happy for Powercruise to return in 2010 and once i let them know for sure we'll be back then a date will be suitably arranged. I'm pretty sure the 200 odd entrants will wanna play again but seeing as i am not local i don't get a chance to chat with everyone about it so feel free to drop me a line and let me know your thoughts.
Catch Ya Cruisin....
Gup
Even more so for any local prospect sponsors of the event?

UPDATEGUP (Powercruise) called today and
discussions are underway for 2010.
Several business contacted him today offering support for the Darwin event next year.
Spread the word - even though the event would be months away, dates and the final decision need to be made very soon if it is to go ahead.
Continued support shown for the event (like above posts) will help this process

and get POWERCRUISE back in 2010.

spoke to Gup tonight and he is $10,000 away from locking in 2010 for darwin, i will put up money that i normally put on for the burnout comp and am prepared to raise it to $2,500 so now we need 7,500 to have powercruise come back.
Now up to you, the car enthuist comunity of Darwin, how are we going to find the money?

100 entrants and $200 each is $20k, would cost more than that to bring up entertainment and put it on. Events take a lot of money.

Government funding is out until 2011 and it would take a lot of sweet talking and hard work to even get them to contemplate supporting an event like this. Not saying don't try, but from a few government contacts I know and discussed this with recently -
outlook is cloudy.
GUP has explained the figures to me and what has been involved in running PC Darwin over the past two years, and I think most people would be very surprised in what this event cost's to run. I was blown away and that was without interstate support last year. But once he starts rattling it all off whats required, it don't take long to get to his cost figure and appreciate what it really does take to have an event like powercruise.
Anyway back to the local guys looking at running a similar event, was this pub talk or something a few people were seriously looking at ? I am keen to have a chat and join in helping out - even if (hopefully) PC does return early next Year?
Cheers

It was initiated there, however Adam(Ancullen) did go to John @ Shannons and I believe maybe even the motoring council (either that or get a proposal together)

Ok i'll put my 2c worth of bitchyness in!
John has his own problems to deal with with the Shannons Motor Show! The lack of 'commitment' that most of us have seen already is proof that 'most' dont care about getting an event organised but will happily sit back and bitch and moan about everyone else who puts something on....
Gup would have that 10k by the end of the week if people on here actually gave a crap... Not blowing smoke up my own husbands arse but he got off his arse and worked tirelessly to get PC up here the first year! And he didnt spend a cent! Its called using YOUR own networks - we all know people in the right places - heck some of you prob own/run/manage your own business... We all deal with businesses that would fit the PC sponsor profile... You prob deal with them daily/weekly but have you sat them down and got talking to them about giving PC some sponsorship??? Gup doesnt have a huge local knowledge of who's who in the zoo up here! Its getting there but thats the commitment you can show by using your contacts and getting the 10k... A pissy little cruise isnt going to do anything - be honest!
And i think more importantly is marketing the event... How many of us actually grabbed a handful of posters/entry forms and not just put them on a counter but actually talked to people about joining in the fun, bringing the kids etc....
Flame away! But at the end of the day - one meeting months ago in a WOW carpark and another meeting with John and no follow up is not the commitment Darwin needs to get/keep these events coming!

Dunno who your talking to but governments have grants all the time for things, and even have money left over in buckets for helping events.
In the past i have used my contacts in the NTG and got free buses for PC, More then happy to pass on my contacts to Gup and co if they want to organise a meeting or have a discussion about the NTG helping out, they have been very willing in the past to sponsor free buses so maybe it might be a time to push them for a little more.

We have a guy thats willing to back such an event - if Darwin in return will do the same. No offence to anyone BUT why try and re-invent the wheel?
Lets give GUP and PC support for 2010 and many more after.
A couple of guys have offered to be representation for PC locally and we are discussing this with GUP currently, especially as Ben has become a mexican

and there is a huge spot left that needs filling.
Thats my last 2 cents on the topic. Rest of my support from here on, will be rounding up support with Darwin business and then the marketing once the event dates have been confirmed.

to PC in 2010.

yes stephen we are going soon but don't think just because we are 3 States away we will wash our hands of motor sport events that happen up here. We've worked hard for the sport and if/when we do come back we don't want that work wasted.
Chris this may just be one thing you don't know all about!
Yep John was keen but he's seen and heard it all before! We had a rather lengthy talk with him in Alice and it's not my place to repeat the conversation. Actions speak louder than words i guess!
People have an attitude like what you posted - don't give a fuck just give us something! But in reality you do give a fuck what it is... There is always the bag'n and the bitch'n about events. It can never be good enough yet people are happy to sit on their backsides and do nothing to improve it... Why pay a big gun performance money? You want the event to drive your car don't you? Why not make the show yours?
