Hey guys, I'll tell you a bit of background before i get into it.
Had a '89 celica - bought a Pioneer sub and amp, got it installed by autobarn. No problems.
Got a new car - 4 door Lancer 99. Transferred the stereo across myself and i'm unsure whether there was any problems.
Bought my mates old sub (exact same model as mine) so now i got 2, old amp was powerful enough, bought biger one from Cash Converters (no comments please) because it was the exact same shape as my old one, just more powerful.
Built the custom box, installed the amp simply by connecting the wires the same way as they were done on my old smaller amp. BUT, the amp doesn't turn off even when the ignition is off!! I've checked all the wires and they all seem fine, even behind the head unit.
I'm unsure as to whether my old smaller amp was doing this before I changed it because I never saw it as it was mounted on the back of the rear seats and couldn't see it. I've spoken to a couple of places over the phone but they'd rather me bring my car in (of course) but obviously I'd rather solve the problem myeelf and save the money.
Just wondering if anybody knows of why this is happening? Or if anybody from the Redlands area in Brisbane is keen to come over and have a look for me I'd be happy to shout them a few 6 packs of whatever. I just want to get this sorted before it flattens my battery. I go to uni down the coast and a flat battery could spell disaster!
Thanks guys, I'd really appreciate any help!!
Cheers,
Aaron

run a new "remote" wire (also called accesory) from your ignition... somewhere in there... to the remote on your amp.. then just test it..

Yes, its the remote wire, the +12V red cable gives it the power it need, the little blue wire will say remote somewhere, it goes into the back of the head unit and that turns the amp on and off with head unit
Check that the Blue wire is connected to the Remote Input of the amp and the Remote Output of the Headunit, you have probably Shorted it with the +12V connection somewhere to save time, the amp will work like this, but stay on 24/7

I'd be willing to lay money its a small strand of wire from your 12v batt input touching over on the remote terminal on the amp

Yeah due im no proffesional but i used to play around with my stereo in my old celica everyday, your problem would most likely either be (as said above) a strand of the copper wire that is screwed into your 12v+(positive) terminal is touching the remote terminal, or its a dodgy remote wire, i live in ormeau so if you want to stop in i could have a look for ya no problems, as i said im no proffesional but ive played around with car stereos more times than i can remember

Same thing happened to me at first. I ended up just splicing the HU Acc wire and wrapping it around that. It works perfect now.

I don't think I have though. The remote wire from the amp is connected to the blue and white wire coming from the back of the head unit. Thats why I can't understand why it's doing it! I connected all the wires up properly as per my knowledge and the diagrams and so forth but it still doesn't work. And as I'm writing this I'm waiting for RACQ to come out because my battery has gone flat and I'm really late for uni! It always happens when you need your car.
So like I said, if anyone in the Redlands would like to come out and look at it for me I'd be prepared to shout them a few 6 packs or whatever.
Thanks guys!

dissconnect the amp and leave it till someone in the know has a look, of get ur fire-ext out cos it sounds like a short somewhere and that could end up in a wire cooking and flames shortly after...
this is seriously bad if the little remote wire is able 2 draw enough current 2 flatten ur batt....

yep check ure wiring, make sure that u have ure remote wire in the right place, not hooked up to a constant power supply. also make sure htat u dont have ure constant power (main power lead) touching the remote wire in any way as this will bypass the whole thing.

I just had this same situation come into the store yesterday. In this case the blue / white remote on wire from the Panasonic cd player was also giving a consant +12v output. They too had just moved their cd player from vehicle to vehicle and in doing so inadvertently shorted a ciscuit in the cd player. End result was send the cd player in to the service shop to have the remote on circuit repaired. If you do not want to do this, then try moving the remote on wire from the blue / white to the red ignition line. If the amp continues to stay on, then you may have a amplifier failure. If it goes on and off with the ignition, it is a definite cd player failure.
