yeah as above. was there during school holidays, only need camping permits.

plenty of people getting bogged, mainly due to clearance/high tyre pressure

yeah nice, looks magic there aye.
ive got a shorty paj no lift with 31's, hopefully will go alright. we probably wont even hit the leisha track, i'd say the only soft shit ill encounter will be from cutting to hard sand and into a campsite. wheres best place to buy camping permits?

you can buy camping permits at the little hut near the barge at tewantin. you shouldnt have any problems on the beach just use the right tyre pressures and momentum

Your paj should go well on the beach with 31's, last time I went up I ran 20psi all round which made it an easy run, although if you're having trouble 15psi should see you through everything. Just remember to use lower gear/higher revs in the soft stuff so you don't bog down thumbsup.gif

I wouldn't worry too much about taking the leisha track, it was easy enough last time just watch your tyres as some of the boards on the Teewah side are a little dodgy.

The most common mistake last time I was up there was people when they lost momentum and came to a stop would continue flooring it and digging themselves deeper. If you can't go forward, reverse straight back the way you came. If that doesn't work, get out and clear the sand from around the tyres first so you don't dig yourself deeper.

D.I is an awesome way to spend a weekend, chances are I'll end up there myself hsdance.gif

atm the national park itself has a complete fire ban untill further notice. its not put on by the rural fire just the national park.

i got my permits off the net but you can go in, in person just before the tewantin barge.

https://www.epa.qld.gov.au/parks/iaparks/gd...quickParkId=131

have a look at the link above thumbsup.gif

so good at DI. thumbsup.gif

i pulled out a few young fellas, they were being stupid on an incoming tide on the sandbar up in the bay. V6 rodeo had a flat battery an they were trying to clutch start it by towing it into soft sand while it had no spark lol no hope. then the new hilux on low profile tyres buried itself without a strap attached, i pulled them out an my mate jump started the deo then he stalled it minutes later... head_wall.gif they had a snatch strap, but no bow shackles, no jumper leads, no shovel. and when i saw them they were towing off their tow balls with a snatch strap unsure.gif

they had no idea, other than that i only saw 1 other 4x4 stuck for the 4 days i was there. an when i saw them they were letting their tyres down. was sum new outlander or sumthing.. i ran 20 psi all long weekend, no issues thumbsup.gif

You can get your permits off the net, just type in double island camping in google and it will bring up the site, you can pay for as many people as you want..I think you can even get your 4wd permit on there aswell. It's a good weekend up there, enjoy it!

I came through on Sunday on the way back from Fraser. Judging by the upgraded road to the 3rd cutting, I reckon the recreation area/vehicle permits will be in place by the xmas holidays. A major part of the scheme is to reduce numbers. Teewah beach camping zone will limit camping permits to 2000 people per night for xmas & easter, 1000/night in school holidays and 600/night off-season. Inskip will be 3000/night peak, 1800/night the rest of the time.

no vehicles between 1st and 3rd cuttings at Tewantin, so if you are going north you have to use the 3rd cutting. A section of beach on the Wide Bay side of Double Is Pt will also be closed to vehicles, as will the beach out in front of Inskip Pt Camping area. Only the part of the beach required for access to the barges will remain open to vehicles at Inskip.

vehicle permits required north of Teewah Village, or beyond middle rocks if coming from Rainbow, or Freshwater Road beyond Bymien picnic area and King's Bore circuit if coming in off Rainbow Beach Rd.

Google "Strategic Directions for Cooloola" for the EPA document for full details.

Im heading up this weekend sucks about the fire ban - have not been before so pretty excited - anyone know where the best place to camp is? looking to find other people to party with....

i was up there yesterday and the entry and exits are a little soft and deep, i had 25psi in my tyres and didnt have any trouble getting through the soft sand though.

only 2 vehicles got stuck while i was there, one was a ford territory that had no recovery gear and and hadn't let his tyres down (i had to explain to him what lowering the pressures did) and the second was a 45 series cruiser that sunk in the soft sand when he realised the territory was blocking the third cutting

try an grab a grassy area that is protected from the wind, i normally camp toward the northern end of the camp area but thats just my preference.
