As I post this, ONE HD is broadcasting ANDRA Pro Series Pro Stock racing from WSID. I only know this cos Dad just sent me an SMS from Cairns to tell me. He said it is a great channel with excellent sports coverage.
Why don't we have it? Who can we voice our opinions to?
Our season has finished, the season is jsut starting again down south, I want to watch drag racing.

Channel 10 it's there channel.... was launched early this year March (i think)

there was a media release a few months ago about some regionals places getting it.
Email from the station manager early this year suggested July 2009. Then phone call to the station last month suggested they had to deliver by April 2010, but then another racer called them the week before and they said there was no plans so depends on who you talk to.

the short of it is, they dont want to give it to darwin obviously, they have that 24hour senery playing on what should be onehd, so why cant they unplug that and plug in sport?
maybe we should go to gerry wood and lobby to get it up here, he can place pressure on the government who still wont be able to do crap....... damm

And if it wasn't for the Fed government changing to Media Ownership laws we wouldnt have channel 10 up here at all.
Hence why we only just recently got 10 digital

I spoke to channel 10 about a month ago about this and they advised around the start of the year.

ten darwin wouldnt know if there ass was on fire, if you go to channel ten they tell you to talk to ten darwin.
i said get the pollies to lobby for it, as like you pointed out government put pressure on and eventually we got 10 up here, so if we start asking for one hd now, we might get it in 5 years or so ............................. by then all the sport will be on pay tv anyway as they will pay more money for tv rights then bump up the subsription fees to cover cost.

Learn to read, i said if it wasn't for the government changing the media ownership laws we would still not have channel 10.
For those that dont know what the law was, in simple terms you couldn't own the main source of print news as well as TV news
It seems Network 10 isn't just hoping for a TV first, it's also hoping to be the first company in any new media landscape to become both broadcaster and publisher in a major city. That is, of course, if the Coalition pursues changes to media ownership rules when it gains control of the Senate in July.
So bcos of this which has now been changed we can now get channel 10
Government lobbying wont do anything as channel 10 is a business like anyone else who will make a decision based on whats best for the business

One is coming to Darwin so getting the pollies isn't going to make things happen any quicker. They obviously have good reason why its not here yet.
The Federal Govt has created a list of Sports that MUST remain on free to air tv. They can still be on pay tv but must be available to free also. Eg Afl, Nrl, Melb Cup, Grand Prix etc. And yes you could argue not every round etc but i don't think any tv company would do that anyway. You'd almost need one channel per sport 24/7.
