hi, just wondering why whwen you ring up and book basky for track days the stupid caretaker wont let you do any skids? they hold drift practice days(yes i know) to let people do this but i dont see the difference whether its at a drift practice day or a track day. i would like to book the track and have a go at more regular intervals then waiting for drift practice days. i cant see why it matters it you were to do a skid when you book the track.
PANDA
im guessing who runs the drift practice days have signed up to take full responsibility for damage caused if any. Its the same at symmons plains

and oh i was out there once and the car taker went off at me... something to do with the track being swept because of the rubber left laying on the track???
CKY767
The reason is that the track generally cops a bit of a hiding and people dont clean up after themselves (except the organised drift days which are always cleaned up perfectly)

what were you driving? i remember a certain wekend a guy in a red vl was pushing really hard and kept getting it sideways throught the s bends and went off his tits at him lol.

edit.. i would be very willing to sweep the track after a track day. lol as long as its not the whole track.

spot on there by the looks of it thumbsup.gif

The main reason is track damage, us drifters have to clean up the track of rubber, fill in track edges with dirt and basically have to pay full rates to be on the track and there has to be someone in control of the day who can deal with the caretaker and MST in the event of something happening

fair enough mate. i want to get into drifting (without being a wanker) i think prac days will be a good place to start though. i wont do 'skids' on the road beause i value my licence and people lives. just wish there could be more prac days for people that just want to go for a slide instead of doing it on the road and getting fucked over for it.

i was out there in my torana about 2 years ago hahaha cant wait to get my nis out there too

yeh we have been trying over the last couple of years to slowly increase the number of practise days but nowadays we are required to run them as a full CAMS liscenced day, so this requires the drivers to be Club members and have your cams liscence, but also on the organisers behalf we have to get officials, ambo's and someone that can do basic scrutineering, which can make a day cost up a fair amount, so we have to make sure we get enough runners to cover these costs and at the moment we only just, if we do cover our costs, so we have to make sure these days we do run are far enough apart that we keep the numbers but close enough that people don
t lose interest

I guess the biggest reason is that Drift is hard on the track and the edge of the track. Shit gets all over it after drift days hence why they sweep, fill & repair.
I have been out there on the bike after ppl have used the track for things they are not meant to and have not swept it and it's no fun.
There are other ppl that use the track for reason's other than to do skids, therefore the track must be kept in tip top shape and the only way to do that is to "Control" the damage caused by drift.
also I guess its more likely for a shit box drift car (Not a competition car as they have to meet scruitneering) to dump oil and bits of shit on the track.
I have been out there doing times and lost it in the s bends and got told of by the care taker as well, Thought I was drifting! Dave dont miss much.
In closing, you want to drift? Do it at a designated day, the rules are there for the future of the sport/track.

lol

there has been an event EVERY month this year...12 events in the calender year is more OFFICAL events than any other state in the country other than queensland and also more OFFICAL track events than any other form of motorsport in the state...

its the EXACT same everywhere around the country...no track will allow ppl to just rock up and drift...it has to be a club affliated day/event...

public liability then becomes your biggest problem...a reason access to the rokeby skidpan is also rather exclusive lol...

considering hooning is such a hot topic atm, they certainly arent making it any easier for ppl preventing them from feeling the need...
Webbey64
meh everyone else gets bike track bike parks skate parks tennis courts cricket nets we should get skid pans. Hooning is a load of shit anyway its just an easy excuse for the government to cover up the shit roads we have not to mention the pressure they are putting on to make every car in australia stock standard which i think makes things worse and is absolutely BS

thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

because a modified car stops quicker than a ADR approved standard vehicle its more suspect able to causing an accident...as said in a conversation with i had with a police officer today hahaha

all a conspiracy theory me thinks...government being paid off by local car manufacturers due to the large influx in modified import cars/decrease in domestic car sales in recent years lol...

whats the age limit on driving and what protection do you need?

Not sure about age requirements but you need long sleeve top, trousers and "Appropriate" foot wear and a Australain std approved helmet ( sticker on back of most helmets )
car's really dont get checked for just provate practise days but on a club day there would be check's.
TRIPOD
I think under 16's need a guardian present to sign in, cars aren't checked but they should be in good running order with no oil leaks,
Its preferable to have a secondary bonnet restraint an fire extinguisher. And for your own safety if your got a car on the track try an have a second car an someone to watch just incase something was to happen at least they can get help or get out to you on the track
mrbluebird
hell yes man im gunna take the 180B out then
Cerby
I would think that anyone under 18 would need an adult guardian to sign for them since nobody under 18 can sign any legally binding documents with out an adult and im sure that would include insurance!

Does anyone know what it costs to simply hire out the track for a day / few hours just to do some practice laps ? Are there any other requirements other than those already stated ?? I'm building up a track bike and i want to test out a fair few things, gearing, tach, etc and i've afew friends who also want to have a run, and a track day gets a bit busy at times to check shit out...so how much is it ?
Cheers Si
GOT_POWR
like $50
Cerby
if you have a hobart car club or similar membership then i thing its either $60 or $70, last time i went they were changing the prices.
If you don't have any membership then it will be $110 or $120.
Basically everytime i've been the caretaker hasn't even to look at my car. All i needed to do was take my helmet and car license over to the tower, fill in the form and pay.
You should definitely ring ahead though because some days the tracks closed for repairs, or its had shite washed across the bottom corner or the only people allowed on are the people setting up for a race on the weekend.
Also bikes and cars aren't allowed on at the same time. At symmons the caretaker didn't care just let us take turns, but whenever i talk to the baskerville caretaker he says oh no thats a bike day or thats a car day so you should check.

Oh and this isn't for hiring out the track as such. Its just paying for you to use it, anyone else that wants to use the track that day still. If you want to actually hire the track exclusively so you say who races and who doesn't its like thousands of dollars or something tongue.gif
yoshi1000
So I should basically just rock up and speak to the caretaker yeah ? Does he do choccies ?? VB ??lol...
