Hey guys, im interested in throwing some marine carpet on the tray of my ute.

Its an alloy tray and all and im jsut wondering if you have any tips or hints on putting it down, mostly concerened about being able to remove it later on and if i need to attatch it another way at the rear of the tray or jsut rely on the glue?

Cheers, PORL.ie

Don't use glue if you are going to remove it later, it creates a mess and is really hard to get rid of. Use aluminium strips down each side, front and back and hold down with 4mm pop rivets every 300 to 400mm. This leaves you with a tray that isn't stained with glue and if you pop rivet the ally down in a uniform way, when you take it all off the holes are small and evenly spaced which you will hardly notice.
If you are to bolt a tool box down on top of the carpet, use suspension bushes to keep an air gap under the toolbox so that the carpet can dry if water gets under there and does not start growing weird mould.

not arguing with that other bloke but here is my opinion.

just glue it man, use kitchen contact adhesive. When it comes time to get it off it'll only take half hour with some desolvent and it will all come off no dramas.
Looks a lot neater than putting some strips around the edge.

Also, if your using marine or boat carpet you dont need to worry about mould, they are made of nylon / man made fibers that are made to stay wet. They wont go mouldy. Bottom of your toolbox might go a bit rusty if its steel tho.

heres mine, although in this pic i need to re glue it as i used carpet glue the first time and carpet glue isint rated for outdoor conditions.

what j train said and it gives it a nicer look and plus you might not keep the car forever and a tidy car is always better

try spray on adhesive but be careful with of all ways

if its not done properly the hot and cold conditions will make it bubble and you will see lumps in ur carpet

hey just go to you local motor trimmer and get some contact adhesive, you need a spray gun to use it but its the best, im actually a motor trimmer myself, ive done my last 2 utes and neva had any probs.
